Why was Vodafones PR person a judge at the Qantas media awards? I thought the awards celebrated the media's ability to remain independent??? Sort of reeks of a wolf guarding the sheep pen... Just a stray thought....

Very stray. I wasn't there representing Vodafone and both the chief judge and I agreed not to give me any category that would conflict with my role at Voadfone.

I've been honoured to be a judge for several years now. If there was any indication that my job at Vodafone would get in the way or that my judging for Qantas would be a problem for work I would stop at once.

I have had several arguments on Geekzone and in other places around a lack of accountability, the lack of full disclosure. I insisted on it when I was a reporter, I insist on it here (and other forums/blogs) and I insist on it in the Vodafone Forum.

Qantas judging isn't my only gig - I also talk to Wammo on KiwiFM each week about stuff and I do car reviews for Top Gear magazine, although the lack of decent cars has been overwhelming of late (Cam, if you're reading... you know where I am). I also do the odd bit for Idealog and anyone who wants me really.

None of which conflicts with/has anything to do with my role at Vodafone.

Now, I would challenge the lurkers here to also come forward and declare their allegiances. Any takers?

Cheers

Paul
