Love the last bit:
Vodafone warned customers not to abuse the text service. "If you excessively use the Vodafone free text weekends, it may result in the suspension of services."

Not a slap on the hand or a warning but a 'suspension of services'. What is considered 'excessive use' and what is not? Lets hear from Voda what the number is - is it 1,000 free TXT's? Is it more or is it less? If there is a limit should it not be stated? Maybe they need to send TXT alerts warning that you have reached '80% of your FREE TXT quota'.

Is there anybody on here who experienced delays or knows of anybody who encountred delays? I had none and I've spoken to a few of Vodafones problem customers that I know (ie teenagers who spend all weekend txting and admitting to 300+ per day spamming mates) all of whom where in Wellington on Saturday and didn't have any problems either.

I guess we can all say "told you so" to Vodafone though, I guess it was to be expected. I bet they'll be frantically trying to do something about their MSMC this week! :-)

This does not surprise me, I mentioned a few weeks back that I would have thought they would have learned their lessons through Telecoms mistakes, and capped it in some way from the start.

If they cap it now, they will generate an outcry not too dissimilar from T-com capping $10 txt. (maybe not quite as big as that)

Yes - messages failed to send - took at least 4 attempts to send anything
messages took about 4 hours to arrive at their destination (to both 021s and 027s)

meant that i could not use sms as a timely method of communicating with anyone all sunday.

027 to 021 seemed to be pretty quick.
and of course 027 to 027 was BAU :-)

free texting did not affect voice calls and people were still abble to send receive SMS they were just delayed and GPRS still worked not like another issue I have heard about today on another network.

I heard reports of 12 hour delays on 021 last weekend - thats every bit as bad as todays goings on.

Especially as the 021 weekends are something that vodafone actively promoted, and now its worse than useless for -some- users -some- of the time.

Unacceptable from both networks methinks.

When you are doing network upgrades there is always the chance that something will go amiss. After all mobile networks are just a bunch of computers and software. Who on this forum has never expoerienced a computer crash?

Its more in the way it was handled. Telecom staff were notified, but customers and telecom business partners werent.

Taniwha you keep on thnking that no body uses there mobile for voice and I haven'y had ang GPRS issues in months

Johnr - voice comment was tounge in cheek :-) guess it didn't transmit clearly.
good to know GPRS is doing well - i was a regular user until about a month ago when i switched to the nokia 6255.
still carry the gsm phone in case i can't get cdma. (or my prepay empties, it's much harder to top up a tcom than a vfone)

Cellphone users have been frustrated again after technical problems hit Vodafone's network for the second weekend in a row.

A "hardware problem" stopped many Wellington customers sending text messages for three hours on Saturday, between 10am and 1pm. And a separate problem in Rotorua – also relating to systems hardware – caused strife for media trying to file reports on Saturday night's Lions v Bay of Plenty match.

The ever-growing text message phenomenon has been blamed for jamming the network, which follows Vodafone's introduction of unlimited free text weekends.

Vodafone, which has two million customers, will not comment on text traffic figures after its offer, citing commercial sensitivity. It gives a guideline of between four million and 14 million texts a day.

The Rotorua problems struck at the worst possible time for British journalists trying to file match reports on the Lions.

London colleagues of a British Press Association reporter were forced to file coverage from television, after he was unable to call out during, and up to an hour after, the game.

"No one (on Vodafone) could get out, but luckily for most they weren't having to file live," reporter Alex Lowe said.

Vodafone spokeswoman Tracey Palmer said the company again apologised to its customers. Technicians were investigating a possible link between Saturday's meltdown and problems last weekend, which led to some text messages being delivered more than 12 hours after they were sent.

feel sorry for them? i doubt it!

no one would feel sorry for an ISP who offered unlimited gigabytes on weekends and failed to deliver.

disenchanted all networks have there issues and are never %100 stable as shown by both Telecom and Vodafone in the last week, If we were to be picky at every single issue each carrier had it would get very boring! Please list a network carrier that has never had a issue
