Hi - I am looking at some 3G phones at the moment and am keen on the music side of things. I understand that Vodafone has implemented DRM - fair enough - to protect the music. What I want to know is if I buy music on my 3G device and upgrade to another 3G device can I take that music with me? I assume i will need a device with a memory stick or something like that but is the DRM tied to the phone or the SIM.

Any help appreciated

You have to contact Vodafone on this - but what I've heard is that the every download is confirmed through a special SMS sent to the device.

Apparently the servers keep a tab on this, and the Vodafone help desk can send a code to your new device that would allow you to download the music again and authenticate it. But you have to call them and confirm the exact procedure for this to work.

That sounds like a lot of work for people with dozens of songs who update their handset once or twice a year.
