I was surprised that after my cable modem lost the connection this morning that the telstraclear service status page actually said Major Disruptions were occuring.

Of course, it's a message from last night and they said they would post an update before 12pm, but beggars can't be choosers I suppose.

Current status - Vendor is trying to isolate the cause.

Next update will be will be Monday the 2nd of August, unless a resolution is achieved earlier.

Oh dear. This is only my first week with TC cable. First DNS, Cache, and DDOS issues and now this, I can't say my confidence in TC is high. Sigh...

It's just been one of those surreal days.

First, sharing the heartfelt anguish of millions (!) over the iPhone (yeah, right - it's a phone, one that doesn't even work properly, that wasn't available - ooh or was it? - through a channel that hadn't been officially announced as offering it anyway - for a couple of hours

).

Then on the train journey home it was announced the train was running slow and we would be late (no change there then) because the headlamps had failed. What, were we going to get lost...on a single rail line?

And now I see TCL has a Major Disruption announcement on its own servicce page...and 2 people post here that they are affected. Usually we see dozens of posts over an outage and no info from the provider.

Tomorrow the weekend and everything will be back to normal...hmmm, is that a good thing?

Don't know of anyone around here (Kapiti) with cable issues btw - knew I could steer back on topic somehow

My cable connection has been down since 1 pm today. The modem attempts to establish a connection and then reboots itself.

(I'm in Christchurch)

We're also in Chch been down all afternoon since around 1-2pm.
Modem "Connected" led just flashes at us, can't even connect to the modem's web interface since power cycling it.

Basically that notice you saw in their status page is not related to the outages today. Connections will slowly be restablished, just keep your modem on.

Looks like the usage meter is down now (503)... since at least 2:30pm today. Also experiencing occasional complete loss of internet for long periods (seems to happen at night?), and a sometimes bad connection otherwise. (WGTN)

The Christchurch specific problem is now on the status page BTW:

Some Business and Residential customers from Christchurch may be experiencing a loss of High Speed Internet or Broadband Services due to an outage.

Customers will be unable to browse the Internet or Send and Receive emails.

Technicians are working to resolve this issue as soon as possible.

Currently there is no estimated time to resolution as of 16:30.

This might be the straw that broke the camels back for me. Several hours downtime in the middle of the day with the only info a c.ouple of posts on a social networking website.. Not remotely good enough for the money the get out of me. Not remotely.

I wonder if there are any DSL ISPs out there who will assign a static ip, have no transparent proxy (or at least optional) and have comparable rates to TelstraClear. Time for me to start looking around I think.

Unplugged my modem while rearranging the lounge, now all the lights are on apart from "online" which is flashing. The cable modem status page (good old 192.168.100.1) says that the modem is trying to get DHCP, and ... no internet for me. The tech support line doesn't let me sit on hold, it tells me they're too busy and hangs up. I've had TelstraClear cable internet since 1999, back when they were good. Now I'm only staying because they're the cheapest if you don't want a phone line.

It would seem to me that TCL are trying hard to improve their customer relations. The TCL thread alone has been very quiet the last month or so, indicating a higher level of satisfaction with them.

Lets hope they keep it up.

Just came back up here in Christchurch. Called about 2pm to get a message that the network was down in Wellington and Christchurch. Called again a couple more times after 6 to see if there were any updates but there was no mention of Christchurch only Wellington.

Updating via Twitter is all well and good (especially since they're the only ones who give any useful information) but if you don't have internet access it's no help. More information on the phone messages would be great.

You don't choose a book by its cover but it does determine which ones you read.
