hi all
all those on vodafone 3G should subscribe to the free "news alert"..awesome.
i watched live sky tv broadcast stuck in the middle of another long auckland traffic jam of the miners rescue..more exciting was that at that time i was told tv one had to evacuate the building due to fire alarm..so..big cudos to vodafone and hope they keep it up and expand on it..the ability to access live tv to your phone is the way to go and vodafone leading the way

check it out everyone..really great technological jump when you think about it for the consumer..especially since the broadcast is free at the moment.

Did they send out a news alert for the rescue? I never got one and by about 9am was really starting to wonder if they had forgotten about the whole rescue!

It's only free if you're using your 3G starter pack, everybody else has to pay! :-)

Prime isn't free, it costs money. As you point out the charge is very clear before you view the stream and all new 3G users get a 1(?) month free trial of all streaming video when they activate their 3G into pack.

hhhmmm...well thats intersting as i am right now looking at sky news and in no part of the menus does it show/indicate or inform me there is a charge for viewing the vid..and that is NOT through the 3G free package...i get "watch round-ups of the latest news from sky news and prime...i then get "please wait ..your video is on its way etc etc"...so where is the "i,m being charged to view then'?

How long have you been using VF 3G services?  Are you absolutely sure you have not subscribed to the 3G starter pack within the last 30 days? If you have then that is why you are getting it for free.

no..no subscriptions..maybe its peculiar to me!..but i do know the menu says nothing about costs etc..it just gives me the option to stream the video..been with vodafone since bellsouth days..was the 7th person to use the gprs system here.so i figure it may be a glitch..but i am enjoying the glitch anyway.

Remember the Ericsson gf768 (am certain that's the model) that was launched by BellSouth before any other GSM network in the world. BellSouth did a huge weekend tradein deal for 025 customers, sold about 3000 phones and then a week later everybody started coming back because the firmware was so buggy the phones were hopeless and unusable. It was months before any networks elsewhere would touch them!

I remember back in the Bellsouth days having a Ericsson GH198... God those were ugly phones!
I remember the day they introduced caller id... back when telecom hadnt even heard of it!

wow... good times!

I loved how they used to give everyone free calls all day on christmas, etc!

speaking of glitches, my 5140i could send and receive email with the pop3 client when i didnt have a cent of credit remaining!
free email...

Anybody still got a GH198? It would be interesting to know if there is anybody in NZ still using one because they definately have to be the ugliest handset ever made!

Free GPRS is old news, lots of people on prepay used to have it..

Yeah, I remember being on pre-pay I went a couple of months without buying a top-up card, when I ran out of credit I just went on VFLIVE (before it was free) and then a couple of hours later I would get a txt saying something like "We have incorrectly charged your for gprs usage and credited your account with $20, sorry for the inconvenience".
