Hi all

I have a client that cant access Https sites at random times of the day.

We are talking Banking and face book, Trademe + others.

Network:

Router TP-Link Router (ADSL) TD-w8950nd just install last week (they had 2 telstra routers befor, same issues), still having issues.

Computers: 4 laptops, running Vista + Windows 7 all with full updates + spyware and AV install and working.
1 Mac desktop with AV and clean.

Updateed firm ware in old Telstra router and it work... for 24 hours, then stoped working.
Now replaced router and it worked on testing now not working.

This fulit is driving me mad... its got to be a easy fix i think....

They are using IE, Firefox, Google chrome, Safari.
only other thing is that all PC's are wireless and this issue also happens over Cat5. I have tested with my laptop that works when not on there network.. i.e. i can access all sites from home office lots of other places.
my laptop is a mac and has all Telcos DNS servers setup.

Any one got any ideas ??? i just want to help these people....

What AV software?

We have on windows 7
laptop No 1 AVG Free
Laptop No2 Avast

Vista
Laptop No 1 Norton's 360
Laptop No 2 McAfee

Mac: Sophos free

All the windows laptops have malwarebytes installed and run (they were having this issues before it was installed).

Is the Mac having this problem as well?

Are you sure the AV is not set to block https traffic at certain times?

Have you configured a password on the router, different from the default?

The odd this is that some times it will work and other times it will not. Spent hours on the phone to TelstraClear advanced support...

Yes mac having issues, did not have AV installed before i started trying to fix it.

Checked all AV non has any thing set to block. Have also disabled AV and still having issues.

The router is still on factory login... can this give issues.

Yes. change it to Telecom on the router, then to Vodafone, now back to TC.

No luck.

Gut feeling is its a issue with TC.....

They are in Rosliston In Canterbury......

You need to set it for the correct setting for your ISP. This can vary.

Most modems/routers will automatically configure themselves if set to auto.

The router is set to auto... I think i went over it when i was on the phone to TC.... Will go over it tomorrow.

Yes.

Try reducing it to 1454 on your computer and see if the problem goes away.

I confess I got caught out the other day with a router that should have got the MTU from the PPP session automatically but didn't and caused random ssl and international site issues which is why I thought of it when I read your post.

1454 might be lower than it needs to be, but I'm suggesting that to attempt to prove out your problem.

Yes.

Double check the DNS servers that are getting assigned in the modem/router are:

203.97.78.43
203.97.78.44

Well the plot deepens....... i have checked every thing suggested here and all good.

Now the modem was not working when i got there, it seems the new modem will just not connect to any site when it goes down.... so rebooted and did a speed test (www.speedtest.com) and it was connecting @ 12+mbps with a ping of 35, after doing speed test every 10 minutes for a 1/2 hour i found that the speed dropped way down to 2mbps, then 10 minutes later i could not connect.... so reboot, speed goes back to 9MBps and the ping goes to 45.....

T/C is going to come out to look now.... i will keep you posted.
