Hi,

I just got a new Motorla v1050 off Trade Me. Well I haven't got it, but I have bought it. The thing is, is that it is brand new, never been open, but the guy I bought it off says he got it for free for working for some company. So he doesn't have proof of purchase. Does this mean I get no warranty? I assume so, but is there anyway for me to get Proof of Purchase just incase I need to get it fixed?

He says that if I go into Vodafone and don't say I got it from TradeMe, that they will fix any problems on it.

Assume no warranty. Its secondhand, and you dont have a pop/receipt.

If you extremely lucky, you may get warranty service by saying "i bought this phone, but i cant find the warranty docket", but i doubt it. (And that would be illegal fraud too)

Its possible the phone was imported or stolen or out of warranty, so id just treat it as being 'as-is'. Very few repairs to phones are worthwhile or economical, i dont know why people would do it.

I see where you are coming from with the repair business. Usually to replace a phone they need to take the whole thing away for a few months etc and it's not worth it. But for small things like mabey the software became corrupt, would they still fix it?

So are you saying that there is really no need to worry about the waranty too much? Or is a big factor when buying a phone off TradeMe?

It should only ever be about 3 - 4 weeks away. Software upgrades take the same length of time, as they all sit in a queue i believe.

I simply wouldnt worry about the warranty. If you are worried about warranty and support then you should be buying retail.

Some companies like Nokia do not offer transferable warranties. Vodafone maybe be able to email away fro a POP, I know Telecom Dealers can.

Hi,

I am not too big about Warrantys, it this situation it seems fine, because it is brand new. The reason I am not buying retail is because they do not stock the phone anymore. It is a good phone (look it up), but the upgraded version comes with bluetooth 9that is why they are discontinuing it), but that costs $650, so flag that.

I will email Vodafone and see what they have to say,

Try calling motorola on 0508 motorola and see if it was directly through them. They have a habit of having phones pass through them with no packing slip arriving on delivery.
