Received my 2 free modems yesterday via courier. 1 is the Huawei VDSL modem (correct) and 2nd is the older HG556A ADSL2+ modem (incorrect). They will not be able to courier the replacement today of course. Cutover to VDSL is due on Monday so I hope they courier it on Friday so I get it on Monday.

EFTPOS runs over broadband. There is POTS line backup but it does take a lot longer to dial in and then accept every EFTPOS transaction via POTS if broadband is down.

Do whatever you want to do man.

Thanks very much for the call TimA this morning. Great customer service.

Tracked down issue to bad wifi (thought I had done some wired tests but obviously not! sorry JohnR). Speedtest via Ethernet is all good.

Cheers, Matt.

My views (except when I am looking out their windows) are not those of my employer.

In regards to the Huawei modem supplied with the VF package

Is anyone using this with their own wifi router? (ie in bridge mode?)

Cheers

I've found the Wifi to be not that great, most speedtests I do I get around 22mb (on a 45mb connection) but I tried a 5ghz wireless AC adaptor which did nearly manage to hit full speed. Of course Ethernet will give you a decent speedtest.

The Huawei Router is not at fault, I bridged my old netgear router to it and had no improvement with wifi speed (using 2.4ghz).

I have found with the 10mb upload speed it does make webpages feel a lot more snappier.

Tried all the modems i could get my hands on.

The issue is transferring WiFi packets into DSL packets etc. The issue lies there. It happens on Fritz, Huawei, Draytek, and heaps of AP's i had lieing around. Its just lack of resource.

Yeah. Wired stuff is performing fine.

I didn't get the VOIP going in the old router unfortunately. It looks like the HG556 runs the ATA off the DSL side of things. Off to buy an ATA at some stage.

IP for the alarm would be good but the alarm guys charge like wounded bulls and have no idea about IP stuff.

The alarm has been working fine with the HG556a and 2talk on the VOIP. It is frustrating that the ATA on the 659 is locked down.

I have been running ATA's of varying descriptions for the alarm dialer for around 7 years now and sold my old WRP400 when I got the HG556. The alarm simply dials our cellphones. There is no "monitoring" as such.

POTS will add $24 per month to the phone bill just for alarm monitoring so will stick with a cheap ATA and VOIP.

Cheers.

Try this for the admin login to change your DNS on the HG659. Yes it is case sensitive.

Edit - Sorry folks. After a request from VF support, I have removed the credentials. However if you PM me, I will PM you the credentials providing you do not go around posting it in forums as it's against VF's wish.

Thanks for posting.

I questioned this practice of Vodafone of not giving this info in the first place for a product that we actually purchased.

I am not complaining, and Vodafone have been communicating well. This note is for information. I spoke to Retention team and committed to VDSL on 23rd Jan at approx 1 pm. I have had TXT on Waitangi Day to inform that installation will occur on Wed 12th Feb. The interesting thing was to get an e-mail yesterday, to inform me that I am to expect TWO HG659 Modems. They have been picked up by courier and are in transit. I hope I do not need Two modems! Further, I hope that I am not to be charged for TWO modems! I notice that someone else got Two, so it may be that Vodafone needs to review protocols?

Got my VDSL connected this morning.

40.19 down and 9.69 up.

Not bad considering I normally used to get 14.73 down and 1.07 up.
