Has anyone with Prime Video managed to get UHD (4K) playback? I can select 4K content but it seems to playback at 1080 only.

I use a 4K monitor with no post processing.

The MythTV box connects by DisplayPort 4K 4:4:4 24/50/60.

I've been at this game long enough to know what I'm looking at.

I never expected the PQ to match or exceed the HTPC videocard & I still don't.

The VTV is set to 4K scan-out but that does not have any noticable effect on the rendering of the GUI.

The GUI is rendered at about 500 lines & super-soft fuzz filtered & simple scaled to 4K.

The Neon & LightBox apps also display the same terrible/bad resolution.

That's a great way to get your prospective customers to chose/use NetFlix or AZ Prime. We did.

AFAICT The Sky VOD in the main menu can not be turned off.

The only thing I recall from seeing the Igloo STB was low res fuzz UI & output.

Not my experience at all - on my TV the UI is definitely full HD with no upscaling.

Same here @Bipedal, I see everything in HD, although I do notice that Neon when viewing a program starts out in SD and then changes to HD. This is using a Sony Bravia KDL-60EX720 which can display 1024P. It is an HD Television. I suspect something is not recognising that you have a 4K TV hence why I asked what Television Make and Model you have.

Nope! Runs Linux. I wish someone would reverse engineer some hardware drivers so we could put our one distro on to it!

This thread is what I love about Geekzone readers, and about tech companies today.  As I say to my kids when I was your age (at which point the abuse becomes to much to bear) product features were defined fairly clearly, we didn't have to make things up or try and work out what a gadget did.  It strikes me that the collective Geekzone wisdom has identified the following features or lack of for the VTV:

1. It works on Ethernet and WiFi.

2. You can record some programs but not all, those you can record are not defined, it's a trial and error process.

3. You can replay some programs (an icon in the program guide shows which), but you can't know before you buy ( a bit like a winning lotto ticket).

4. Sky programs currently aren't HD and may never be, I don't know about the Freeview programs.

5. There is some disagreement about whether the Menu is HD or very low res - can we have an adjudicator on this it isn't clear.

6. For my input the remote is significantly better than the T-Box remote even if it doesn't quite do what people expect.

7. You can turn the Sky programs off so they don't show in the Program Guide.

I'm sure if we work at it we can fully define a set of features that the VTV has that work...

I repeat..

The UI only looks bad in main menu & LightBox & Neon.

Is a only a little better in grid guide.

Lot better in TVNZ & Netflix & AZ Prime app menus.

Netflix stream looks okay (great for budget ADSL).

My 4K monitor is not a TV. It is not really a very good video monitor but it was cheap stop-gap until 4K-OLED.

It has displayport (for MythTV) & all (basic) image post processing & overscan disabled.

The panel is happy to work at ~24, 50, ~60 Hz 4K 4:4:4 modes.

The 2 HDMI inputs are MDL? & 2.0.

Here's a screensnap of photo of panel info with VTV main menu.

The panels OSD information display shows 2160P50.

You can clearly see (pun intended) the fuzzy UI c.f. the OSD.

I never expected the UI to be rendered in 4K as the box does not have enough RAM or other resources to handle it.

But I did NOT expect it to be so bad by design.

It has to an intentional requirement (firmware spec) from a stake holder.

That's a pretty trivial complaint about the gui? I bet %98 of the users don't even notice an issue. They accept it as it is.

Its far more important that the device is reliable and accesses the content as advertised.

I'd noticed, but the UI has so many other problems that resolution was not worth getting bugged by. I'm pretty confident that even with a high-res interface, it would still be very hard to use. :-p
It doesn't allow me to 'record' or catch-up with 90% of what I watch, which is the implication of the advertising. :-(
Very pleased we didn't pay the $150 street price, or $170 retail for it.
