what i think it stupid.

in Palmerston North , 3g is only supported in the city.

so all the vodafone shops are selling phones, with video calling etc etc , but when a customer takes it home , they can't use it???????

vodafone shouldn't be selling phones in areas like that.

You mean just in the CBD around the square? Can you get signal out by Massey? Is it only GSM in the suburbs?

Edit: Just asking. I don't have a 3G handset, but coverage in Palmerston North (where I work and play at the moment) might be a deciding factor when it comes around to handset purchase time, whether to choose to stay with Vodafone or to switch to Telecom.

Kickass thats why there are very clear coverage maps on the vodafone website and in store!! I have never seen anything that advises there is coverage everywhere and the network has only just being turned on give them a chance!

3G only CDB.

GSM is everywhere , massey well i haven't been there in a while , was good not prefect...

3G Coverage has to be best in the Hutt in the Wellington region I reckon, the video calls were excellent there, plus its free so I've been calling my mates on lunchbreak, lol.

3G coverage in Chch is awesome and great in Auckland and Wanganui and Hamilton they are the only places I have used it but will get to use it in on Saturday in Wellington!

Its fantastic the amount of cities/towns they got up and running at launch.. and its fatastic that Dunedin CITY got coverage instead of just the bloody airport (like some "other" network)

vodafone shouldn't be selling phones in areas like that.

I think you as a consumer have a right to decide whether you buy the service or not.
If you dont have coverage at home dont buy it. Or buy it, maybe a month later you gonna have a mobile tower in your backyard radiating 3G.. :)

Although I would love there to be more. I am happy with the day one launch coverage of 3g from Vodafone. I’m at the Mount and coverage is good, Tauranga has less with only the CBD being covered. But get to a high spot and you can get 3 g services from well outside the coverage area. Hey at least there is some 3g service as the other lot did not bother here. I think just as long as Vodafone keep improving coverage people will be happy.Also be nice if they sent TXT’s to connected 3g handsets with coverage updates as they happen!

Yeah I thought the Herald article was interesting as well although Peter Nowak has made a career out of Telco bashing so I wouldn't read too much into it. Normally its Telecom he has a go at.

I think the issue of central Auckland skipping in and out of GPRS and 3G could be related to Pilot pollution. I am sure Voda will sort that by realigning their antenna arrays. Not a biggy.

Noticed something interesting last night, I had picked up a 3G booklet from DSE yesterday, was flicking through it to see if there was anything interesting in there I hadn't already read.

Near the back of the brochure the 3G pricing plans were listed, it had a sticker placed over what was obviously some earlier pre-printed prices.

Seems to me VF may have made a late decision to change their pricing with the inclusion of an extra plan. Peeling off the sticker revealed the following original pricing lineup

VMC Lite - 50MB @ $45
VMC Everyday - 120MB @ $65
VMC Unleasshed - 1GB @ $132
