He should have had a z800i, then he could have downloaded mp3's onto it from his computer, without any restriction as placed on the v800

Why do you say that?? I've downloaded MP3's onto my V800 with no problems at all from my computer... even set them as ringtones.

Unlike the previous SonyEricssons (K700i/S700 etc) there seem to be no restrictions on the MP3's you load onto your phone from your computer. I was pleasently surprised by this as I'd gone and downloaded SonyEricsson's DRM software from their development site thinking I would need to alter the MP3's but this was not the case.
:)

Hi!!!

I wonder if you guys can help me... I have a LGu8130. Bought overseas.. 3G....

I can access the text version of the webpage.... But not the cool Vodafone Live, the one with Mobile TV, with images....

I heard that it's because Vodafone Live "detects" your phone right???? Any way I can do something about that?

Hi jesseycy, welcome to Geekzone. Dont forget to check out our Introductions forum, and if you have any new questions, create a new thread for them (you will be much more likely to elicit good information by doing so)

Yes I'm very very surprised that the v800 allows free use of any "open" format, (NOT DRM FILES) You can send them via email, MMS, Bluetooth, IRDA and also set all audio formats as ringtones.
Even the store said Nope, No way, but it's totally open for unprotected files!
I aquired a k700i at the time of purchase due to friend upgrading and passing down his old handset and it's RESTRICTED! something muppet will be fixing for me :-)

What really suprised me is that the phone as well as a wavetable synthesizer for MID ringtones, I has obviously got the Yamaha chip for the MMF files, as well, an FM sythesizer!!!!!

I have created an extensive topic about it's file formats for development reasons and placed it on geekzone.

I know there are some V800 (ie Voda branded) firmwares that do allow unrestricted MP3 usage, there are also some that don't.

I think it's a great move on Voda NZ's part they've decided to go with the unrestricted FW. I think they are slowly learning consumers don't like to be told exactly how to behave.

I'm currently working on a way to have a Z800i (ie totally unbranded) phone work on with the 3G portal... Will keep people posted if interested.

I'm defintely interested as well! Like I said above, I have a LG u8130, and all I get is the "text" version of Vodafone Live.. When I can even surf right to the main www.vodafone.co.nz website...

If it's any help, I noticed that for different phones, a certain part in the live.vodafone.com website changes. For example, for my phone, I get redirected to the page live.vodafone.com/#pt03 My mom's Nokia 6230 gets redirected to live.vodafone.com/#pt52

Any meaning to that???

The redirects are based on what the VF Live website detects your phone as.
I don't know much about it, but that would be perfectly normal - different phones support different things so different content is served to each one.

Someone from VF would know more about the site than I do.

Also: While I do have the ability to flash LG 3G phones, I have no experience with them and anything I did would be kinda experimental.

Audiophiles are such twits! They buy such pointless stuff: Gold plated cables, $2000 power cords. Idiots.

Hi, I am one of those people feeling a little misery with my z800 which I thought I is a v800, exactly the same one as the one Vodafone is selling right now. I really want to get those 3G contents, although I haven't tried out video calls yet, not even sure if it's working.

I have come across a couple of people said they can convert a z800 back to v800 with a firmware flash, if that would allow me getting recognise by Vlive, I would be greatly appreciate if someone can tell me how to do it or if that person is happy to do it for me.

I don't understand why Vodafone wouldn't recognise z800 though...

Welcome to Geekzone!

May I recommend people trying to have their mobile phone working on Vodafone new 3G network to please create another thread if there is not one specifically for this already? This one seems to be mostly related to the launch, not to specific handsets.

This way we can keep discussions on topic...

I see, I probably misunderstood. I thought the same handset when it has the Vodafone firmware, it's called v800, when it's without, it's z800. Thanks for the tip.
