ZollyMonsta: Do you have any iOS devices in the household? If so disable their Bluetooth whilst you pair the remote

Really!  Is that a thing?

That doesn't explain why it keeps dropping pairing though.  Does it?  I'm asking a genuine question....

I can confirm this is a thing. We had issues with our Apple TV and Mac Mini Bluetooth causing pairing issues with the VTV remote.  Grant came and had a look at the set up and that’s how we discovered what was the problem for us. It hasn’t caused any issues subsequently after it was paired though.

Can confirm my mother had also purchased a used Gen2 box with the expectation that it was bought from a retailer, not a VF contract issued device. Yesterday she attempted to setup VTV for SkySport and alas, the box is now locked out with Vodafone not willing to unlock it. Yet another wasted bit of hardware, along with the Gen1 box she bought before that. Hopefully the VTV she bought today from 100% Electrical doesn't suffer the same fate, it's so wasteful.

I've been really happy with the VTV box over the last few months for what I have used it for, however the more I have used it the more the more I have noticed a few oddities particularly with recording.  I don't know if the oddities are just that, oddities or bugs.

1. I have been recording the series of the futsal world cup on Sky Sport, this started off playing on Sky Sport 7 and all the early games up to the quarter finals recorded as expected.  I went looking for the semi finals which hadn't yet played on Sky Sport 7, and found they had been moved to Sky Sport 2, but they no longer were marked as to be recorded.  So I wonder if when a program moves from one channel to another on Sky the series link is broken.

2. When scrolling through a recording the thumbnails no longer appear so it's hard to determine where you are.

Don't have Sky, but can't say I'm surprised.

Thumbnails come and go ... they will return some time ... probably.

Like you, we find that most things work quite well. Things that don't, well, for watching free stuff I think it's the best of available options, and I love that bluetooth remote!

PS - funny quirk tonight. Usually the 20 seconds forwards / backwards is fine, but today it repeatedly not playing after a jump forward. Fiddling about makes it play again. Very odd. Will probably be back to normal tomorrow.

The most frustrating part about the VTV for me is the lack of a user manual.  Not that I ever read a manual voluntarily but every so often I come across something I want to know and can't find the answer anywhere (generally they're totally dawky things).  As far as things working and then not working I have never turned my box off, a few days ago my daughter turned it off and it has never performed the same since, it now won't scroll down the menu items and has to be stepped line by line, hopefully that will come back soon... or not.

Have you tried turning it off and on again? 😀 As in, unplugging / replugging the power? I have to do that every couple of months to fix some oddity such as slow response, black screen, or stuttering.

Hi everyone

I was just wondering whether there is a known issue with the Vodafone TV box (Gen 2)? Since purchasing it a couple of weeks ago, it displays a red light and won't turn on (either using the remote or the button on the box itself) unless I unplug it from the wall socket for 30 seconds and plug it back in. I have to do this every day.

Interestingly, it only seems to happen if I leave it in its off state (red light) for a period of time. If I turn it off for a few minutes, I can turn it back on. However, if I leave it for a long period of time (e.g. overnight) then I have to unplug it from the wall socket for 30 seconds in order to get it to work.

I read some older posts from last year, where this was an issue, but it seemed to have been sorted with a firmware update.

I have tried changing between the 'instant on' and 'power saving' modes, but it happens in both cases.

Our other Vodafone TV box, which has the same firmware, doesn't have this issue.

Thanks for any help you can give me.

Regards,

James

Hi @jvandervelden19!

In the absence of any other reply: "No"
Sorry I can't suggest anything either. Perhaps you will get a reply from one of the Vodafone folks who occasionally contribute here.
Only thought is that perhaps it something to do with having two VTVs on the same account / same IP address / something equally vague. Hard to think what - other people have the same arrangement as you, and they've not said there is a broader issue. Does sound more like hardware.

Thanks for using this forum. I wish you well with finding a solution.

Can you get it out of standby, if you remove the HDMI cable first?

Never experienced that symptom at all ... sounds like a dud unit.

Thank you, everyone, for your responses! I appreciate it.

I have tried unplugging the HDMI cable, but I get the same result. It's very weird that it only happens when left in its 'off' state overnight. Even if left off for a few hours, I can turn it back on, either with the remote or on the unit itself. Overnight, and I have to turn it off and on at the wall. Very strange.

Could the fact I use the Vodafone TV app on my Android phone, linked to my Vodafone TV box, be the cause, or my Logitech Harmony 650 remote, which I have been using to turn it on and off? Clutching at straws! I have CEC turned on, but that's the only way I can get my HDMI ARC soundbar to work.

I think the best thing is to contact Vodafone support, but wanted to see if I could (with your help) figure this out for myself.

Thanks again for your help.

Hi all,

Thanks for your help with this! I have somehow fixed the problem! I left CEC turned on, but turned off the 'auto on' setting. It means I have to turn my soundbar on and off manually now, but at least Vodafone TV works!

Thanks again to all who offered advice.
