Slightly off topic - but can I ask who you use for insurance?
I tried to keep that attitude for the companies I deal with (I'll pay you rather than you take the money), but all the insurance companies I've tried insist on direct debit.

Off-topic I know but I don't pay insurance annually because if you have a (serious - say car write off) claim part way through the year, the policy is cancelled and you get no pro-rata refund. Seen it happen to friends a few times - once was a month after the policy was paid for and the insurance company would not refund the remainder (however they said if it was being paid monthly, they would have just cancelled the remainder of the payments).

But if you don't do this, you end up paying ~10-20% more when you pay per month.

I'll take the long term risk :)
