Given that vodafone.net.nz is very small, and as was mentioned above this is probably a pilot of the smaller volume, before the others go.

I cant see why they would remove .net.nz as its not performing well, when all their email addresses run off the same sets of servers. I believe they use Voda servers and the old Ihug ones

I remember that! We switched from Voyager to Wave to ~1996 because it was $30 for 30 hours instead of $10/hour! Don't have the email address anymore because we later switched to Paradise. Of course we had no idea at the time that they'd all eventually end up being owned by the same company.

I would change to a gmail address , as google is not likely to shut down.

You can inform all your friends , and most organisations allow you to update online.

You can keep the ihug account in parallel but over time (maybe a year or two) you'll switch to gmail completely.

Worth doing, I shutdown my xtra email like this

Probably better to start sooner than later as this email is giving 2 months notice, so if that went well, the others may follow in short order, possibly all at once

My recommendation is always to register a domain and move to a proper mail hosting company. Without naming any names you can easily have a domain and fully hosted EAS/ActiveSync mail which delivers significant benefits particularly if you want mail on multiple devices and phones all for NZ$10 per year depending on the type of domain you want. A solution like this runs rings around gmail.

So made the domain 2 years ago and yet to find anyone offering mail only for $10 a year (basic IMAP is all I wanted not even a website) so stuck with IHUG. Everywhere was way to expensive. If you can list this NZ $10 a year provider would be appreciated.

I do believe the position is you can still sign up to things using your vodafone.net.nz account, except any mail destined to that address is forwarded to your new e.g. Gmail, Outlook, address. Is that correct, @MikeHales ?

@StevieT Yes, that's correct you can use that email address if you've set up forwarding. Just won't be able to access the inbox etc post shutdown.

Spam handling would be much better I would like to think with one of the larger players, So you should just get the email you want with Gmail, iCloud, or MS, or certainly less spam, better filters etc.

No wonder there are soooo many rubbish mail platforms out there if this is what consumers think.

$7.50/month gets you hosted exchange with activesync. far far better than a IMAP mailbox.

No that's the amount that Sbiddle said you can pay a year for Activesync as you will see in the quote above. The amount you quote is more like what my investigations found. I have no need for activesync as I do not use Outlook, will never use Outlook (I even convinced my entire work domain not to use Outlook I hate it that much) and really for home email account yes IMAP (hell for many even pop) is totally fine.

Guessing the support isn't great for that price. Problem is that people expect email to be really reliable with great support, but don't want to pay for it, or pay peanuts. No wonder isps want to get out of the email game, as the support costs probably outweigh the money that can be made from it.
