22 hours downtime so far for me in Richmond (Christchurch), and it's still not backup. I'm a self employed programmer and working from home so an internet connection is very important to me, so I've got a backup connection, and the irony of it is it's an XT prepaid stick which is working beautifully.
I was with Telecom's business broadband for almost 2 years and in that time I've had about 2 hours of downtime (a cable got cut between the islands). I've been with TelstraClear for about 3 weeks, 22 hours and counting.
Yesterday I had the online blinking light and the modem rebooting (which they've finally added a message about when you call up), but now I've only got 2 lights with the receive light blinking.
I've just spoken to a real person at TCL, I only had a wait time on the phone of about 30 seconds which must be a new record for them. I was told the longest waiting customer was 14 minutes, so I guess their phone system must be busted too. Apparently 10% of their 13,000 customers in Christchurch are back online, and it'll be another few hours until the rest are back.
Ours was down between 1pm and somewhere around 10pm on Sunday.
Couldn't connect to the modem to see the log which is pretty bad on motorolas part. Isn't that the first thing you would want to check if it can't connect. (192.168.100.1 wouldn't come up during the outage).
Article on stuff, they are saying 13,000 customers being restored 500 per hour. Also report that the outage yesterday was only 4 hours and unrelated. I guess I'm one of the lucky ones, it came back up for me at about 5:30/6 last night and a few short outages later on but it's up for me currently.
About 13,000 Christchurch TelstraClear customers are without broadband internet this morning following a software fault.
It comes after a four hour outage yesterday afternoon that affected the wider Canterbury area but TelstraClear said the faults were unrelated.
A TelstraClear spokesperson said it was not known what had caused the fault in the early hours of this morning, which had disrupted about half of its Christchurch customers, including 400 business customers.

I've had the converse experience. 7 years with Telstra cable, and its been rock-solid , the only outage that I can recall was when a car hit a pole on our circuit. Tried Telecom ADSL for 6 months (before TC offered cable seperate to phone line) and it was atrocious, far too unrelaible to use for a VoIP line. I suspect it was partly due to the crappy ADSL modem that Telecom supply. Not very impressed with this outage though.
27 hours on and my connection is still down, although I'm back to 3 solid lights and the online light blinking again. Apparently their authentication servers are having trouble handling requests, so for anyone who's successfully connected whatever you do don't power cycle your modem.
Yep as of 10 minutes ago I'm finally back too. The prepaid XT stick was one my best investments ever, I easily made back the money I spent on it today by being able to continue working.
I'm still undecided as to whether to go back to Telecom yet, I like the low latency of Cable but if there's another outage in the next couple of weeks it's going go be a no-brainer.
