johnr: Richms clearly by your post you have no idea what you are speaking about
First of all prepay numbers that are not topped over a lenght of time goto into a automatic number recyclying
and there are no issues with 8 digit MSISDNs the issue is with the systems PBX that are trying to ring them
Yeah, the numbers go into recycling, but the sims dont. yet they tell me that the sims have expired so I have to go buy a new one. I have several fully functional sim cards here that are from depleted expired prepay connections that are in the same number range that the one I want to get a new sim assigned to are in (infact bought at the same time in one case), yet I cannot use them.
In addition, prepay connection packs have an un-mentioned expiry which I have mentioned before, with no date on the outside of the pack to warn you of it, and once they expire they expect you to go and buy a brand new pack. I managed to get a replacement free for one of the ones that it happened to at the vodafone store.
And the issue with 8 digit numbers is a people one, people dont expect to get 8 digits. Vodafone should have done an advertising job warning people about them, Customer management systems cant take them, web forms cant take them.
Why they cant let you swap the prepay connection pack that comes with the phone for a replacement sim for your number is something I don't get. I think its just because the sim counts as a customer so they can use it to over inflate their customer numbers.
I still stand by my earlier statement that sims are an ok idea on there own, but vodafones implimentation is an abortion.
