I feel Snap's VDSL is only something transitional between the ASDL2 and the fiber network; TBH, it is not worth the hassle as I would rather wait for full fiber network to become available in my area (which I hope would be within this year, according to Enable webpage).

Also with the faster speed (both upload and download) while the data cap remains the same and in the meantime you pay $25 more each month, plus all the equipment costs, I don't see good value in that, personally.

I will remain with ADSL2, then switch to fiber network later.

The thing for the moment is to decide which ISP to sign up for; I'm happy with current speed and I simply need more data each month.

Shindig: Vodafone taking a quality of quantity?

80Gb is ample or are you downloading every HD movie release?

You may be right, 80GB is probably enough for our household, though the last couple of months we've really been pushing the 60GB limit. But there is also the percieved value of their offering - it just seems like most other ISPs have bumped data caps up a fair bit more...

But yes, it's possible VF is taking a more measured approach to this and focusing on ensuring quality while increasing the caps. I certainly hope this is the case. I'll be interested to see how other ISPs follow through on these large data caps if everybody starts trying to use them up.  I'm guessing most ISPs are banking on the average user not coming close.

Yeah just got my email too.  80GB will get me through a month, just annoyed that for the same money I can get 120GB with my previous provider and not even have to monitor my usage.
I can always pay the $199 for the modem and go back I guess. Undecided

Will stick around for a while and see what develops.

no need to exaggerate. i don't download anything in HD usually, usually smaller files, Tv,
but probably quite frequently. i also watch tvondemand daily. it doesnt take long to go over 60Gb

It's just an indication of what's out there really. Just like 80GB may suit some people, VDSL may not suit others.

Lucky you that you're getting fibre this year but for a lot of other people, that's just not the case. I don't know if we'll ever get it and I'm 50m from the cabinet. If we want the speed increase then VDSL it is.

It would be interesting though to know how VDSL performs as compared to ADSL2.  Have you signed up already?

Actually I'm not sure whether the fibre would be laid out as scheduled (I certainly hope that is so), with the way Christchurch it is at the moment (just another 4.2 shake this morning!!!)  :(

Just came across people talking about extra data today so thought i'd have a look here.

I was stoked to think i'd get a boost but bummed when they said no to naked users (me). I sincerely hope that they go across the board with the boost, or at least make my double data rates lower. Better yet, increase the overage speed to remain at full speed and charge me a sufficiently low rate that matches the per GB price of a double data pack.

No, not yet. I'll be waiting till the end of the month to see what other goodies VF will through in to try and keep their customers from heading for for the hills.

There's a thread over on the Snap board that talks about the VDSL. Personally, I'd rather put that $25 into more cap. The international speeds will be the same for ADSL and VDSL.

For downloads yes, but I think those nice upload speeds mights be where VDSL really shines.. especially as "teh cloud" becomes ever more pervasive.
