This forwarding is not working at all for me. Sent 3 to my Paradise address from work address, outlook.com address and gmail address. No sign of any of them to my selected gmail address. Spam however, is still being forwarded and dumped in my gmail spam folder.
I was at a sports event over the weekend with mainly retired people and about 75% of them were affected by this change. Probably because they first got their Internet and hence their email addresses when many of those companies were significant. They weren't sure on how to make the changes or decide where to go to. They didn't want their own domains.
Big nuisance for them.

One of my test messages came through 3 hours later, from Gmail to Paradise but was filed in spam. Those first 3 have yet to turn up.
EDIT, just as I finished this the Outlook message sent at 9:45am arrived.

I would suggest thousands of people are like this who I am advising to change ISP's and to pay for some help if they need it well before the end of the month. I am guessing VF arent really interesting in these smaller accounts anyway.

God I hope not. Our ihug address is my wife's go to email address of 20 years.
I would change to a gmail address , as google is not likely to shut down.
You can inform all your friends , and most organisations allow you to update online.
You can keep the ihug account in parallel but over time (maybe a year or two) you'll switch to gmail completely.
Worth doing, I shutdown my xtra email like this
My recommendation is always to register a domain and move to a proper mail hosting company. Without naming any names you can easily have a domain and fully hosted EAS/ActiveSync mail which delivers significant benefits particularly if you want mail on multiple devices and phones all for NZ$10 per year depending on the type of domain you want. A solution like this runs rings around gmail.
That 'keep xxx account in parallel... maybe a year or two' is a trap!!! You'll get to the time in a few years when they finally announce they are not forwarding any more and you won't remember which forums or accounts are on the old address. I'm working through steadily using notepad to list which ones I've done and which ones are still to be done, and it's taking a long time. Especially when you hit stupid, where they won't allow you to make a change unless you authenticate but you can't because they are using an authentication method that was set up after your account was created. Or they're an irrelevant account, say for warranty on a new product; and they want your financial history, bank account number, driver's licence, passport photo and your wife's measurements before they'll let you change anything. My bank? Done in 3 min. RealMe? 5 min. Irrelevant retail warranty site? 2 weeks and counting. I don't care about sites like that but it's the TIME they waste.
Like tchart, my clearnet and paradise accounts have been going for over 20 years, so I'm kinda pissed at woedafone

This is interesting because I too know several retired age people who have moved ISP over this last month, mainly because of this. Most seem to have been with them since the old Saturn and Telstra Clear days, and were also buying cable tv, which they say they will just use lightbox or other streaming services. They all seem to have moved to Spark who do provide an xtra email address. Their reason is that they get phone support in helping them set it up on their computer, which they don't get with the free email providers. I suspect that is quite common with that age group of customer. So obviously there is still a good market for ISP email services amongst that demographic. I think it is far more than just about cost too. Even though you can buy a NZ domain and buy email hosting, that has a level of complexity too it that many people can't be bothered with, and even though that is an addon cost, you don't usually get phone support for setting up email accounts with it.

Totally agree. They were able to set up a gmail address but got stumped after that. I told them not to leave it to the last moment due to the forwarding needing time to kick in and get right.
Just did another test from my other Gmail account to my Paradise address and it came through pretty quick. The sender field has this address now <redirect@vodafone.co.nz>.

Is that address showing up as the "From" field in your e-mail client? That definitely should not be the case.
EDIT:
What should happen is that Vodafone forwards the e-mail on using your Vodafone address (or possibly one of theirs) in the envelope ("mail from" command) to get around SPF checks, but leaves the original message unaltered. The 'sender' may be added to the headers by the sending or receiving SMTP server, but the 'From' address should be untouched.
haven't found anything about smtp (sending email) closing
so it closing too ??

They are closing down ALL email, because it is too hard for them.
Post 30 November you won't be able to access inbox or send through SMTP, if forwarding setup then inbound emails will be filtered for spam and forwarded onto the address you specify.

I was surprised when I saw it, here's a screenshot from Thunderbird.
