@freitasm: Do you pay for it personally, or does your business? Last time I looked at the costs on those sorts of things they were VERY expensive per month. The cost of running a link to the premises, media conveters etc isn't small.

You're right about it being just a change on the routers though, to get a speed increase all that has to happen is the rate-limits applied to your service are adjusted.

30 seconds work for a techie to do, 4 weeks of waiting for the paperwork for the poor customer.

I think my point still holds, of course there's always a few "hardcore" consumers that will have the uber tech and be happy to pay for it. Mostly it's businesses though.

Oh wait, I've just clicked: You're not talking about cable modems are you? I classify those in the same group as DSL. I ment a fixed ethernet connection with a static IP address etc.

Yes, I am talking about the cable modems, and I have a static IP address, same one since 1999, then changed last year when my modem was changed after replacing the 256kpbs service with 10mbps. I don't pay anything extra for this IP address.

I have a V800 and I am really disappointed. I spend 99% of my time in Ponsonby and Auckland CBD. However I cant even get 3G coverage in my flat in St Mary's Bay (top of college hill) and when it pops in and out of 3G it gets confused and really dont like it and my callers would quite frequently get about 20-30 seconds of silence when they call me then it would go to Voicemail. I am hating it!!! SE was nice enough to swap me a handset so its prob not a handset issue.. It is a NZ new fone so I think its Vodafone! Vodafone: SORT IT OUT

TonyNZ: If you're having problems like this there's a few things to do:

1) See if there's a firmware update for your phone. Often a new firmware can help with these sort of issues. To find out what firmware you have, you can do > * < < * < * where < = left on joystick, > = right.
Find out your FW version and then post it here, I can tell you if there's a later version available and MobilePhoneRepair will upgrade it for free for you (this is valid for one year from date of purchase)

2) If that's doesn't help (and by what you've posted it probably won't) then I would suggest turning OFF 3G mode in the phone, leaving it 2G enabled when you're at home, turning on 3G mode when you need it.

I have turned it off 3G for now.. hope it improves!!! Maybe Ill turn it on when it gets more coverage.

I have found the ponsonby area to be pretty bad for handovers between 3G - 2G there are spots like that all over auckland. I often have my phone in 2G only when im making a lot of voice calls.

Why would handovers be bad? I have also seen (quite often actually..) 3G coverage but no bars... especially near TVNZ in town. However when this happens, sometimes I would still get calls but sometimes my callers would get the 20 second wait for my voicemail :(

Dont be surprised. VF 3G network is quite new and optimization is ongoing. Vf aware of these coverage issues in certain areas and trying to fix it.

I just hope that it wont be the case of "Oh there are only 50 ppl in the effected areas and it would be better if we spent that same money in Tauranga where 300 people would benefit".... I asked the Vodafone guys and they are totally useless to say the less.. Did not anything, didnt even know about the DRM for ringtones, they made up some bull crap about AACs - and this was in the VOdafone concept store on Qst!!!.... Vodafone need to train their staff better. I had find out about DRM on the net

Nope Vodafone have not improved service in Tauranga since the 3g launch. So the money ain’t been spent here.

It's interesting to note in Wellington that there are sites that are now on their 3rd type of panel antenna since the network went live, ie after initial panel was installed it's been replaced twice so there in obviously a lot of work being done on getting the network working correctly.
