With the partner's help, I finally have a Gmail account. I've imported all my emails from clear.net and will soon be away laughing.

MikeHales:

Post 30 November you won't be able to access inbox or send through SMTP, if forwarding setup then inbound emails will be filtered for spam and forwarded onto the address you specify.

I think you meant 30 October.  Since the weekend neither Clearnet nor Paradise are accessible

Another "what if" question tongue-out

After November 30th, what happens when people using an email client try to Send/Receive from the Clear/Paradise etc servers? (once Forwarding has been confirmed I have advised users to delete their Clear/Paradise accounts from their email client anyway), but ....

We know that SMTP for sending will be unavailable, so will the user get an "unable to connect" type error message or will it still look like a live email service?

I can't forward now if the email has come via my clearnet account. I just change the origin to my Gmail account and off it goes

So how is the forwarding working for people now? Are people still having problems receiving forwarded emails from domains which request strict SPF/DKIM compliance where the receiving forward obeys this? Or have Vodafone set up their forwarding properly now to do remailing so this shouldn't happen?

I'm not so worried about emails ending up in the spam box, I could always move them out, but emails which don't show up at all. This would be for an ihug.co.nz email if it matters.

I have a domain which is using legacy Google Apps free so was originally planning to forward there but I'm now wondering if I should look use something else with more spam controls, in particular the ability to ignore DKIM/SPF if it's needed. Although it's my own domain, I also use it for other things so don't want to change it just for this. So I'd either need to set up a cheap domain for the forwarding or do it directly to whatever service I choose. Former option is obviously a lot more flexible and it doesn't sound like Vodafone have any simple way to change where it forwards to so I really need to do it right the first time.

Oh, this is just too funny ... over a month ago I actioned the Forwarding of my Clear emails, as well as ticking the box/es to receive Invoices and promotional material etc to the new email address. Even changed my email address in the online MyAccount area too.

No problem with Forwarding.
No problem with receiving monthly Invoices.

Advertising/promotional material from Vodafone received today ...... yep, you guessed it ... was sent to my old Clear address !!!  tongue-out

I have been using a gmail address for spam mail for years, but using my vodafone address (paradise) for all my important mail.  Have set up a new cheap domain and email address for my emails, and my partner's emails.

Just wondering though - is anyone else having problems with the Pop3/smtp servers on paradise at the moment.  They stopped working for me on Tuesday, and while I can still see the messages in the webmail (which I don't normally use), I can't download the last few emails to my computer.  There are some important emails in there that I need to save, but don't really want to waste my time manually forwarding them to myself from the webmail if anyone has discovered a fix for the pop3 server issue....? Any ideas greatly appreciated.

It could be your email client is confused for some reason and thinks it already has them when it doesn't. Simplest test for this is probably to set up a fresh account in some email client and have it download everything again.

Unfortunately, that was the first thing I tried when the service appeared to fail.  The pop3 server seems to be refusing access from my machine.  Have migrated most (not all) of my emails to new databases so not much of importance will be lost.

Sorry I can't be of more help. My account is an ihug one so can't tell you what it's like for me either.

On a largely unrelated note, it has occured to me that Rickles's question is actually very important for the IMAP servers. I'm not an expert, but as I understand the way IMAP works if Vodafone still has IMAP servers at the same addresses and they allow logins from the accounts but just don't show an emails, anyone who has left their email client with the default config will probably find to their dismay all their old emails will be deleted client side too. Since I'm sure some people will do this, Vodafone needs to ensure that they either don't keep IMAP servers at these addresses or of they do, they disallow logins from the old accounts. (Of course keeping a single copy on your local computer means you're probably going to lose them when your hard disk dies, or you're hit by ransomware or whatever, but Vodafone should minimise their contribution to users making silly mistakes causing them to lose data.)

Hi all,

In case some of you haven´t decided yet what to do regarding the Vodafone Email Discontinuation:

We are able to offer all affected users a free .kiwi domain name (thanks to DotKiwi for the offer) and exchange email address including cloud storage. The domain name is only free for the first year but the email address and cloud storage will always remain free.

We understand that this offer is not for everybody and most people will be perfectly happy with gmail or hotmail etc. but in case you prefer a different solution or have use for a domain name, feel free: octopoly.com/special-promotion-email

Anyhow, let me know if you have questions.

(I checked with @freitasm before posting this to make sure it is ok).

Cheers,

Daniel
