I was going to suggest a modified Tivo also. Despite being older technology without apps and on-demand, they do the Freeview basics as well as anything else we've seen. Owners tend to be pretty fanatical about them too due to their ease of use, family friendliness and reliability.

I'll continue to  modify, upgrade  and support these machines for as long as there is a demand for it.

Tivo upgrades to operate with the new OzTivo EPG, support and service. Over 400 performed here so far. See: www.hillcrest.net.nz

I donated 4 to the cause (@Spong) a few years ago. I'd buy 3 back if they were capable of running via internet only. Now, there's a mod I could get behind!

I managed to get into my Sky account that had been setup up for me by Vodafone - thanks - but it would have been nice to tell me so I didn't spend time trying to create one.

I had an email from Sky saying it looks like I already have an account with this email address and prompting me to login to it which I've managed to do - it's linked to an old account with a previous address from when I had Sky directly before switching to Vodafone TV about 4 years ago. I've now received the first bill to the same email address with a new account number listed on it. When logging into Sky Go I can only see Prime and it says I'm not subscribed to anything else as it's linked to the old closed account. Hopefully I can get the new account linked to this login instead - will try live chat which is hopefully better than sitting on hold to the call centre. The bill is at least for the correct amount. They say the days from 1-19 March are on them and my billing period starts from 19th, but my last Vodafone bill was slightly different to the usual amount covering a part month so I think I've still paid for those days, just not directly to Sky.

Edit: On looking at the Sky bill again I notice they have my address incorrectly as 'Street' rather than 'Road.' Will try and get that corrected at the same time as sorting out the account login.

Sat on the live chat through their website for about 30 mins with it saying "an agent is coming" then gave up as I had to do something else. Have sent a private message to their Facebook page instead so hopefully it can be sorted out that way.

Edit: Got a reply from the Facebook message after about an hour saying they had delinked the old account and that I would be able to link the new one from my end with the link in the email they sent. Done this and it's now sorted with the correct address. I've generally always found sending a private message to any company's social media seems to be the best way to get an issue sorted rather than sitting on hold for ages on the phone.

Sky Go still tells me I'm not subscribed to anything, but I wonder if we don't get access to that until we move from the VTV box to a Sky one as still have access to the VTV app. Would seem silly to not have access to the app now we are now directly Sky customers so I've sent another query back to ask.

I am not sure we are directly Sky customers until we loose the VTV box just that they are handling the billing ( for which you need a Sky account). I will have to check the original info

Yeah true, so probably we can't use Sky Go while using the VTV box but will update once I get a response confirming that.

Greetings, you can subscribe to Sky Go and the extent of access is dependent on the packages you have paid Sky for i.e. you can view / stream content from Prime / Vibe for free.

I am not looking forward to the reality of a massive tech step backward with a hybrid box still relying on a sat feed and 'recording' progs to a local 1TB HD - no (albeit restricted) 3 day rewind / watchlist. Pity about the appalling VTV customer service unless you copy a certain JPMD into an email after trying for weeks and weeks for someone - somewhere to confirm that no - not all the eps of Succession / White Lotus were available to view (and get it sorted) - or the Winter Olympic highlight packages were really what they were purported to be as all 4 period eps / day were named the same - sigh! Don't know if we want to be unofficial development Guinee Pigs all over again db

Agree re tech step backward. The main TV viewer in the house was saying how great the VTV was compared to the previous box and she loved the ease of viewing. I am going to have to to break it gently as September approaches :-)

Got a reply that Sky Go won't work until migrated to a Sky box later in the year (so can login and see Prime, but not the Sky packages you subscribe to). Also mentioned that "more info will come later in regard to our products as there is a new online Sky Box to be released, similar to Vodafone TV."

I hope it is as good as VTV.

Well I got my email from Sky telling me that they are now providing the billing for TV services and the 1st March to 19th March is gratis. Great

I got a similar email and thought what a nice gesture, but it appears to me that Vodafone did the charging. Did you come to the same conclusion.?

I initially thought that to be the case, but on looking at my Vodafone bill again it does look like the TV portion was only charged up to 28 February and not for the first half of March which would usually have been in my billing cycle. Will have to see what happens in the next Vodafone bill.
