Just plugged in one of these today.

I think I found a bug on the DDNS page. It wont let me save any DDNS config into this router, I click the apply button and nothing happens. If I go to a different page then back DDNS is turned off.

Tried in both Chrome and IE and confirmed credentials I was inputting was correct. Is this happening for everyone?

Same here. The apply button doesn't appear to work. I've raised it to address.

Yes, DHCP can be turned off in the Ultra Hub
The Ultra Hub is for residential customers and not intended for business.

Thanks for the heads up on DDNS issue.

Any chance you can hook me up with a static IP while you sort out the DDNS bug? I cant swap back to my old router because it had a different fault.

Do you still need a separate cable modem?

What if i only got HGXXX 3 months ago.. can I still resign & get newer unit?

No, for some good reasons

Wi-Fi power output is legally regulated (measured at 1m from the device) so, contrary to common belief, all routers put out the same wifi power regardless of the antenna being used. Often it is aesthetic choices in router design that lead to internal or external antenna
Wi-Fi performance is a combination of Chipset, Driver and good antenna design as well as proper placement of the device. In our experience, most Wi-Fi issues are caused by poor placement than anything else.
Beamforming is achieved by phase shifting of the Wi-Fi signal. The antennas have to be positioned and aligned with one another correctly for the beamforming to work properly. If external antennas were used where the user could change the orientation it would make beamforming less effective.

But completely understandable as these would be the first part the customer would break! and some people would say routers with external antenna are ugly.

How is the performance in terms of speed when running a USB hd plugged into the USB port in terms of using it as a shared media drive or backup device.

So is this router suitable for Voda UFB? (with VOIP ports as per HG659)

We have a busy home network (30+ devices) incl 2 x Voda Fibre Sky boxes + lots of streaming and have been experiencing drop offs which I suspect may be as a result of the router being taxed.
I don't care about the built-in Wifi, but want to know if throughput on the device is higher... Will this be an option?

Example: Multiping below - top 4 are pinging internal IPs (incl gateway) every 5 secs, the bottom two are Voda DNS server and Google 8.8.8.8 - you can clearly see Internet drops off quite often.

Here's my $0.02 worth for anybody interested. (Reposting due to dodgey router.)

So I have received a new Vodafone Ultra Hub device, as they have decided to switch us from ADSL to VDSL.

Initial: Unit is packaged nicely and comes with a PSU, 1xRJ11 cable and 2xCat5 cables plus a very basic Vodafone quick start guide. Default passwords are printed on the buttom of the unit and appear the maybe unique per device.

Unfortunately the remainder of the experiance has not been too postitive.

1. The power plug is very loose and falls out if you turn it over to plug in anther cable

2. The power switch is ultra sensitive and I swear has bumped itself off.

3. Resetting the main password failed twice, forcing a system default. (I cut and paste from a password safe, so no typos)

The router has WIFI, I think everybody got that, shame it is useless...

4. Wifi range is ****, cannot get 2.4g coverage through our 190m2 house. Have tried relocating router to centre of house as suggested in quick start. 5g coverage is dodgy in the same room.

5. Wifi constant authentication errors, probably due to 4 above, once connected works okay as long as you don't move to another room. (Tested with Samsung J1 & S6, Tab A, Dell and HP laptops)

6. Only three Lan ports, I need four.

Other comments: Seems to have all the standard functions of low end router(under advanced mode). No mounting options, must sit on table/shelf. Specifies 2A @ 12V so 24Watts but have not measured actual consumpution. Does it have a Vodafone back door?

Summary: Will be going back to the "trusty & quality" TP link router untill I can find a new VDSL unit. Use these because we have lost two routers to lightning strikes.
