I agree, this means we can actually truly start using our mobiles/laptops on the go. Before, it was just too expensive for the average user to do so.

sbiddle: I know I've knocked Vodafone in the past for many things but this really is one of the best things they have done in a long time - it's just a shame it's taken so long to appear.

Indeed, this really is a good deal. I'm not a fan of Vodafone after having $75 "stolen" by them last year but it is a good deal and will hopefully result in good competition from Telecom etc too.

So what are Vodafone going to do with the $30 for 200mb? This new plan is much more like it! I couldnt get my head around paying $10 more than if I just used 10mb a day for $1 and I would get 300mb instead of 200!

I hope I didnt confuse someone lol I am very tired from the school production "The Outsider's" all week.

The only thing I'd still love to see a provider launch is a truely Prepaid Data SIM - ie being able to load a 1GB block onto a SIM which is valid for say 6 months.

I will certainly use a lot more data now and will tether my laptop using Bluetooth when needed. With the arrival of cheap data cards and integrated mini notes it would be nice to be able to have a SIM in this permanently but not have to commit to a minimum $10 spend.

I see other good uses for something like that too, for example Mobile GPS monitoring.

I would still like to see the ability to have a second sim on a data plan so that one can be in a laptop or a car PC and get access to the data purchased on another connection. At the moment its a PITA taking the sim from a mobile to put into a data card for the laptop and putting it back again when done.

@richms, can you not buy a prepay SIM, stick it in the device and then just top it up using the $10/100MB process? then it's a data only SIM and there's no swapping back and forth.

Or are you talking about something else?

cheers

paul

It sounds perfect for the 900MHz 3G Industrial router I have in my hot little hand. First one on the market and we are trialling with customers now.

PM me if you would like some details.

Topping up is a chore. I would rather just have it all come off the same balance - either prepaid or on account..

At the moment with a GSM GPS tracker, its already enough of a pain to remember to top it up so its bestmate will work, data would be more of a pain because it wouldnt be $6 a month.

Has anyone tried to add these yet? I just rang to try and add the pack and the CSR told me that these packs are only for prepay and not for on account. She was quite insistent that they would never be available for on account.

My views (except when I am looking out their windows) are not those of my employer.

While the CSR is clearly not correct, why bother trying to add them yet?

Paul Brislen:
6 April - On Account launches.
15 April - Prepay launches.

The break fee was $200+gst

/end rant :P
