This is the "stuck frame decode" problem that TCL have mentioned before. They know about it.

To fix the picture, FF or RW a bit.

Okay, but what if I'm not actually playing or recording anything and it just happens that I am just watching tv and see this?

vdrum, if you are watching LiveTV on the TBOX, then it all goes into a 1 hour buffer. So you can use the PAUSE, RW, FF and PLAY to see if what was captured was a corrupt transmission or just the TBOX doing its stuck frame decode trick.

Anyone able to explain why this stuff is such an issue?

Pixilation is the other one I'd like to understand about. Why is that a constant issue as well?

Memory is $20 for a gig. Given how delayed TV normally is, I don't get why it can't be buffered long enough to sort out the image stream properly and get all the ducks in a row.

I never really noticed these sorts of issues with Sky when I had it. I did used to see it a bit on the basic Telstra decoder and they said it had to do with the head ends but sorted mostly in the end.

But what's the problem with this box?

And my good news is that I've now experienced the "stuck frame decode" issue, on a couple of recordings I played yesterday. I'm certain I've not seen that effect previously.

But hey, the rugby is over. The "performance update" will have been well and truly tested, so I would assume it must be rolling out during the coming week. Maybe I assume too much.

Memory is not the problem. The live buffer delay has to be kept fairly short. Say for example, it was five seconds. When you changed channel, you would not see it happen for five seconds.

ya, thanks, that's a good point I hadn't considered. It's why I was wondering and asked.

I think the whole space needs a bit of a rethink personally.

Freeview on my tv annoys me that it takes so long to move channels. so used to my analog set which is almost instant.

Found my TBOX frozen this Sunday morning, showing the REC and STANDBY red lights and being unresponsive to commands.
After a REBOOT I examined the PLANNER.
Last recording was BBC Ch93 TALKING MOVIES 0130-0200 30 minutes Sunday 30-10-2011.
Icon indicates PARTIAL RECORDING. Actual recording was 50 minutes (10 minutes buffer either side) and all was playable.
INFO shows reason as: Recording failed due to box being powered off.
There was no other active recordings and there was no scheduling conflicts.
Previous REBOOT occurred at 0630 on Saturday, so UPTIME approx 20 hours.
Last time I had a freeze was on 6th of September.

I found a number of my recordings were failing for various reasons (either an unknown error, or because the box was powered off (ie not responsive). A reboot had it sorted for a while. Box was frozen the other night when I got to it, and a reboot sorted it out. It did tak a while to come back up.
LanceNZ - I've been waiting for the update since the end of the final game. Still waiting. I even posted a comment last week about it, however nothing from Telstra. perhaps they've stopped listening to us.

Anyone noticed that the T-box isn't being advertised on TV any more?

My wife rang up and complained - she's about had enough. The upshot is we now have a 'free' T-box to go with our Internet and phone.

Initially there were a lot of billboards etc everywhere, and I'm pretty sure there were TV advertisements for the T-box. I'm doubting myself now though.

Yeah you are correct about billboards ect but no TV , The only advertising on tv for a while has been the current run , before that I'm pretty sure it was the Join the Journey thingy

Found mine frozen this morning. Usual thing - Family Guy shown as Part Recorded but it's all there. Only that one recording scheduled.

It is ever so slightly annoying to have people at work telling me they've got a T-Box free with a 2 year contract. Having paid $500 up front to be a beta tester. I'm also a bit annoyed that TCL didn't bother responding to my email asking about compensation. It's not as though I haven't been patient and forthcoming with any information they've requested.

Wow.. you guys still got problem with your T-boxes? Damn, I am so thankful ours (2x T-boxes) been working great since the early day - got them both installed on the immediate weekend after TCL announced earlier the week.

Guess we are so damn lucky!

I was in the same boat for compensation.

We were charged the full install price dispite trying to get our unit to be installed during the FREE install period - they had ran out of units and we had to be postponed. Since our unit arrived AFTER the free offer, we were charged.

Add this to the constant issues we were having, I emailed them and asked for compesation - I wanted the install refunded and something for the 3 days I had taken off work to get the 2 replacement boxes, constant failed recording and freezing all the time.

They sent me a stock standard Auto Reply with an 0800 number to call for this request.
I called the number and got the very minimal - they said they would refund the install, and offered me 1 months free ungrade rental (not for the entire TV service, just the upgrade cost to T-Box).

The best part was when my monthly account arrived and they had CHARGED this amount! My bill was huge. SO I had to get them to refund TWO amounts.

But I am now feeling the same way as you - new clients that get the newer improved boxes seem to be getting better deals from TCL than those of us that have endured the constant hickups from day one - especially when they were a there worst.

At the end of the day - if you don't ask you wont get. But given their track record, I thought they would have been offering.........
