I don't suppose they deal with issuing the recycling bags to send the kit back? ordered mine a few weeks ago when the offer came through but crickets......

Mine turned up late last week (IIRC).

Our refund has been applied to our account after about three and a half weeks (not too bad in my book). I know this because our account balance is in credit for the correct amount, but there is nowhere online where I can find details of what has happened. https://www.vodafone.co.nz/tv/ no longer says anything about us having had a VTV. The account information doesn't seem able to tell me where the credit came from.

Humm ... I was going to do a rant about how I don't see any evidence that Vodafone's primary customer service contact point - a phone call - is improving, but that would be off topic. See @freitasm - I pay attention to the FUG!

Now, back to trying to find an alternative, Sorry @sub, NextPVR is causing a little grief - will let you know when I have had time to define the problem. Overall NextPVR is still looking promising.

I have been browsing Sky's channel for any information on the options they will be offering their Vodafone Sky customers who currently get Sky content on the Vodafone box.

The latest I have found is this from November last year.

https://www.sky.co.nz/-/sky-selects-international-partners-to-develop-new-sky-box-components

I do not want a satellite dish etc on the house but my reading of this information is that the box will provide free to air channels and Irdeto-encrypted programs ( what ever they may be) via the satellite and the normal Sky  packages (Entertainment, Sports etc) via streaming on the internet data stream.

"The new box has integrated Wi-Fi 6 technology to accommodate the best wireless connection for seamless 4K video streams, and eight tuners for connection to a Satellite receiver for free-to-air channels and Irdeto-encrypted programs."

Does anyone know if this is a correct interpretation?

If it is  then I can only say "Come back Vodafone TV- all is forgiven" as I will probably end with a Sky box to view Sky packages and another box to view the free to air.

Now that NZ is getting Google TV 'officially'... Will it have Freeview channels too?

Or is the SmartVu dongle better anyway as it is a similar spec, and freeview comes standard?

I did use one of these at a holiday place in hahei - it was good, but not as slick as using a tv remote and flicking between channels with <100ms change time between them. I cant recall the channel change experience but like all these digital services, no-one has built an internet driven mega-easy channel flick experience.

Well, vodafone did but anyway here we are. And SkyDiscovery is promising something similar. apparently.

No, it does not have. You can always install Kodi and configure it for the streaming sources though. Topic for another thread.

freitasm, you are talking about now, and are correct, but janszoon is asking about the future.

The problem is we are talking Google TV and Goggle will do what Google will do.  Generally there is no point in asking what Google will do for us as NZ is so tiny it is not like they actually care if we are happy with their offering, we are just another tick box on someones check list.  So it will simply come down to luck with whomever is assigned the task of supporting our market and if that person/team bothers to research what people here actually use and want.  I won't be holding my breath on getting native Freeview support.

"Freeview" on demand is ending anyway. You'll need individual apps. As above, please create a new topic!

Please create a new topic. For all I know the poster is asking if Google Chromecast with Android TV has Freeview as a replacement for VTV. The answer is still no but you can use Kodi.

I often got the names confused. Do you mean Free to Air channels like Rush, Eden, Bravo including 1,2,3 etc or, Freeview which is a downloaded app that has catch up TV, some live channels and other streaming content. Freeview the app is ending soon.

If you mean Free to Air channels, yes you can get them on the Dish Smart Vu dongle and also their Smart Vu box natively which is what I am replacing Vodafone TV with. They can be used without an aerial or sat dish and work via internet. Both also connect to Google Play Store so you can download many other apps including Kodi.

Google TV does not have NZ Free to Air natively, as above.

Cool thanks for the answers. Yeah I mean 1 2 and 3 channels. I just read last week about Google TV launching here 'officially' shortly and was interested if it would support Freeview channels. Your answers help clarify things (it won't) so maybe SmartVu is the best option to replace VTV

This is a big thread now, so sorry if im repeating myself:

1/ The vodaTV app has stopped working, correct?

2/ Should I be able to access SkyGo content with the Sky sub I have?

I wanted to watch CNN for the Jan 6 hearings, but Sky thinks I dont have the right subscription (but under Voda TV I could watch CNN, quite easily as well).

Sky says use the Voda TV app. Sigh.

1/ Are you talking about watching Sky on the VTV app? We don't have Sky, and few Freeview programs we watch are available to watch on the app. The rest of the app seems to be working fine.

3/ Under VTV most things are usually quite easy once we got used to the limitations and interface quirks. We will miss it!
