Just out of interest, how does this happen John?  If the customer has a spanking new DSL2+ modem, does the system not just figure it out?

No. The profile is set in the ISAM.

freitasm: There would be plenty of problems that could still impact speed. If the OP post the modem DSL stats (which we asked already two times before) then people will be able to say if even more speed can be achieved.

The OP is not enough of a Geek to know where he's find those...! ;-)

You just use a web browser and browse the gateway address on your network.

http://www.speedguide.net/faq_in_q.php?qid=301

As you're using a mac you'll need to google how to find out the gateway address for a mac as the 'cmd' idea won't exist on your mac.

Not sure what stats are required but here are the ones I can see:

CurrRate (kbps) Upstream 896  Downstream 7616

Max Rate (kbps) Up 1344   Down 8576

NoiseMargin (dB) Up 20.0  Down 13.5

Attenuation (dB) Up 9.0   Down 7.5

Power (dBm)  Up 12.3   Down 13.8

The good news is your speed will double once you're moved off an ADSL1 profile (maximum 7616). You should be able to get ~15Mbps.

Why aren't they dynamic?

So you're suggesting that anyone upgrading with a new modem should always do some basic testing to check that they're actually getting the value they're attempting to get with the new modem?

Could we don't go off topic and have this discussion in its own thread?

It doesn't help the OP at all.

yes, sorry, and someone might like to click the answers too for other readers.

I think there's a bit of stuff here that everyone upgrading should be having a quick look at.

Certainly that is good news! However I presume that ADSL2 is not actually available everywhere?

For all that, I changed from ADSL2+ to naked (still ADSL 2+), in the same property, a few years ago... and noticed a bit of a speed increase. Of course the shift from multiple jackpoints to just one may have been whatdunnit. But is there not a little boost from no POTS interference?

We are confirming with Chorus if Geektastic should be connecting at ADSL1 or ADSL2+

Thanks John

Pretty much what I expected to hear. I expect most of NZ to be on fibre to the door by the time we get ADSL2! ;-)

That's unfortunate. Being in Christchurch aren't you in the cable area?

Couple of new RBI cabinets go live there soon. No idea if these will replace an existing ASAM / Conklin the OP is on without knowing an address.
