I'm supposed to respect my elders, but it's getting harder and harder for me to find one now.

tonyhughes:"Casual Daily Rate does not apply to VoIP ...."
This prepay data pricing is brilliant. Extremely competitive, and very attractive.
I must say however, that stipulating no VoIP is quite a concern. Why is Vodafone trying to control what I do with the connection I pay for?
Its not like VoIP places a strain on resources - whether I use 1MB of email or 1MB of VoIP call, its still revenue. If you let me use VoIP, I will stay connected all the time, recieve a few calls a week, generally only make calls from the office or home where I am in WiFi coverage anyway, and your data revenue increases, while voice calling for me will remain largely unaffected.
Is the no VoIP a 'rule' only, or is it enforced from a technical standpoint (I am sure some enterprising GZer will find out soon anyway).
hellonearthisman: That is very good point that's not been addressed.
PaulBrislen: Yeah... hiding. Right. Sorry, but I have this day job thing that occasionally gets in the way of my blogging...
There's no mystery here - we say in our terms and conditions that we don't support VoIP because we don't. We can't guarantee throughput, we can't guarantee quality of service. So it's not a supported application but at the same time we don't block it. If you want to buy a phone, use it for data and then use it to (gasp) make phone calls, you can!
So it's not a supported application but at the same time we don't block it.... you can .... But we don't support it.

Thanks for clarifing Paul, clearly the wording on the website contradicts this atm though!
Filterer: The bottom of http://www.vodafone.co.nz/mobile-data/mobile-web.jsp
* Subject to standard data restrictions. Casual Daily Rate does not apply to VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol) or to Telemetry devices, which provide automatic measurement and transmission of data over the Vodafone data network.

tonyhughes:
If that is indeed the case, then you have a very very compelling offer for a lot of people.
