If any of you folks haven't received my email about the Geekzone Pizza AKL (or missed the thread in the Off Topic sub-forum), I have received an update and Vodafone is looking to have CEO Jason Paris, CTO Tony Baird and Vodafone TV Product Manager Hamish @Sansom there to answer questions and get to know more about the community...

We have about 60 people registered so far and plenty of space left! Keep the registrations for this event coming and get to talk about Vodafone TV directly to the people who know things.

Looking forward to it.  I was talking about this with @olof yesterday who says he'll also be there.

I’ll be there in spirit. Have a slice of pizza and a beer for me.

We will!  And if you can get The Cheese onto VTV then we'll have it playing in the background, clock's ticking!

Has anyone ever managed to get the mobile app to work? Here are the official instructions:

https://help.vodafone.co.nz/app/answers/detail/a_id/28891/related/1

The app prompts for a username and password, but I never had a username assigned when I registered for Vodafone TV or when I set up my My Vodafone account. Both of these services use an email address and password, but entering that email address as my 'username' in the app doesn't work.

It's all very confusing.

Yes, correct... coming later this month with a new way of linking the app to the STB household account (and the new linking method will be the new method for any "bundled" gen1 users setting up for the first time also, although Gen1 users who have already linked won't have to re-link).

Thanks for clarifying. The support document that I linked to above really should be edited in the interim to clarify that this feature is not yet available, otherwise people might potentially waste a lot of time trying to figure out why they can't get it working.

Yes, good point.  The information on the support document is still valid for the vast majority of Vodafone TV users (who use the bundled Gen1 box), but we will update it asap to clarify that new standalone Gen2 users will have to wait till end November.

We are working to align all Vodafone TV users onto the same software and platform for set up, changes and support, so that we can remove these types of differences asap.

Hi there

I've noticed my box has the new update. However I'm getting an issue still which was in the old software. I use a hdmi switch (9 devices 4 inputs on the tv unfortunately) and when I'm watching a channel on the VTV and then I switch the switch to another input and then switch back to the VTV input, the image on that channel is frozen. I still get sound. And fix is to change channel then change back. Is the fix for this coming as I thought I saw it mentioned earlier in this thread. Cheers

I'm happy to volunteer my box for "beta testing" channels and apps, am sure others would too.

It is a little bit hard to say if your specific issue is covered, but we are just about to start testing the next software release for Gen2, again focusing on defect fixes and stability. We will keep GZ updated of course, when this release is ready for deployment.

For background information, the Gen2 box is running what we call release 5.1 of the software. This is the latest release of software for Vodafone TV globally, and we are focusing very hard right now to resolve defects that customers strike both in NZ and in other markets.

Looking forward to it indeed! As @Sansom noted, part of the Vodafone media team, including myself, will also be there to enjoy some good discussions. (And beer!)

I want you to get the update right but I'd really like it right now because version 3.1 is so crappy to use - it even makes SkyGo seem attractive.

I took to heart the comment that the update would be coming post RWC, so I've checked for the update a couple of times today just in the hope that Christmas arrives early for me. 😩 I barely watch anything anymore so it's doubly irrational to bother checking. 🤪

Hmm. Should definitely not be the case with the current, or new release. I will DM you now to get further details so that we can resolve your issues.

Hi, I currently have a gen 1 box, i have noticed though that when watching either rented or purchased movies through the Youtube app most, but not all are maxing out at 480p resolution. I have a couple that will play at 1080p, but the rest, and especially rented movies are only coming through at 480p. I have checked the same movies on both my phone and a Sony Android TV, and they will both play at fully HD 1080p. This is annoying as i rent a few movies through google play, and it would be nice to use the Youtube app to play them instead of chromecasting. I could understand that the app and box may have limited the resolution, except that it isn't consistent over my movie library. The gen 1 box is on a Vodafone fibre connection hooked to a Panasonic Plasma TV. The Sony Android TV is at a different location and is only running on a VDSL connection.

Hi all,

Does the Vodafone TV app work with gen 2? I can't get it to log in...

I have the following VF logins:

  • Mobile
  • Broadband
  • VTV (Gen 2)

I though VF were looking at consolidating services, instead they added a seperate one for VTV :)

Cheers🤡

I'm not a complete idiot, I still have some parts missing.

Unfortunately, the Vodafone TV mobile app is not yet supported for the Gen2 VodafoneTV box. We are working hard to put this support in place during November, early December. Reason that it is not available yet is that we are moving to a new way of authenticating the app, and we need all boxes, Gen1 and Gen2, on the same software release before we can do this.

We will of course post on GZ as soon as we have an update on this.

The VodafoneTV Gen1 and Gen2 boxes both support 1080p and 4K playback, and this should be true also for YouTube. (Was renting a Google Play movie myself and watched it in 1080p last week on a Gen2.) I will discuss with the team to see if there are any known issues that could explain this. Could you please DM me with a title that only played in 480p and we will try to replicate. Thanks!
