pleccy: Oh didn't think about a new modem. I've just checked and I have a Motorola modem that says surfboard 'SB5101i' underneath. When i move to 100G Warpspeed do i need a new modem?

EDIT: Just google and the SB5101 can do up to 30Mbps so I guess i need to ask for a new modem from Vodafone. Hope they can provide one for no cost

Hi pleccy. If you upgrade to our 100Mbps service we'll schedule a technician visit to test the cable connection, and replace and set-up your modem for you all as part of the upgrade.

Which costs $100 I believe? (Just clarifying as I'm looking to do something similar in the near future)

Your meter is reset to zero, but don't go using the whole thing. The usage will be prorated so it won't be the full size of the plan but a part of it.

For example I've changed mine from 100GB to 150GB on the 2nd April. My usage in this new allowance is being counted from 3rd april to 19th April. Pro-rate this and I can only use 80 GB in this period.

I thought Vodafone's strategy was going to be to migrate its existing ADSL customers on Chorus hardware across to the HFC network (see for example page 3 of the Vodafone Clearance Application). Looking at my own plan, there doesn't currently seem to be much incentive to shift.

I'm on Vodafone's Mega Naked ADSL plan, which is $65/month for 100GB (with on-account mobile discount). The equivalent amount of data on an HFC plan is the Warpspeed 100G, which is $85.95/month. On top of the increased pricing, there is also the question of installation fees for setting up the cable modem, and installing the wiring for those who don't have it already.

The advantage of the HFC plan is obviously the increased speed vs ADSL, but I wonder if this is really worth ~$20/month for the average user. For my usage (mainly web browsing and multiplayer games, with some streaming video) the ADSL seems plenty fast enough. With a master filter installed and interleaving off, it also seems to have pretty similar latency to a cable connection.

Perhaps we will see an on-account mobile discount applied to HFC plans at some point, once the billing systems are better integrated, which could tip the scales in favour of cable.

Choice Naked ADSL $55/month for 50GB vs Lightspeed 60G cable $55.95/month for 60GB - 15/2Mbps

100GB was $85, I moved to it.

Edit: They haven't updated all their marketing, currently this page says $55.95 for the base inhome cable broadband: https://www.vodafone.co.nz/internet/high-speed-cable-network/

Here's a screenshot of the wrong price:

It was showing the $155 price for some time, but a refresh just now shows the correct $95 price again.

I guess Vodafone must be having problems with their web server version control...

I called up and switched from the original LightSpeed 60G plan to the "new" Warpspeed 100G plan. However, was advised I would need to go onto a contract term - not on any contract terms previously.

Not too fussed regarding contract, happy to get the lower cost on the plan price, doesn't look like UFB will be in my area any time soon.

I wasn't put on a contract. It's more the principle, as I have no plans of leaving cable for some time (and have been using cable for the last 13 - 14 years, since the old Chello days.

the guy installing it brought a cisco modem and installed it - my old one was a telecom ADSL one so wouldnt have worked anyway but yeah you need a different modem than standard cable too apparently.
