I'm still confused about the 75GB limit. If I download 75GB outside of the 12am-8am doesn that mean I get no free off peak data?

PLAN SWITCH CLARIFICATIONS

Thanks for the great service. Can you please clarify:

(A) If I switch to the New HSI Torrent Plan before the end of this month does this affect how I will be charged for the data I have *already* downloaded this month?

(B) Does what is already downloaded this month between 12am-8am subtract from the free 75GB limit? (Or does the count start from zero when switching to the new plan?)

A: No the Plan starts from the date you switch

B: No The 75Gb starts from the time you switch plans

No it doesnt what will happen is that you will get charged for the 75GB at 8am - 12am rates of $1.54 a GB but you will still have that 75GB of free data between the hours of 12am and 8am

Filterer: Hey mav, any further word on if/how the useage monitor is going to reflect this change?

If it needs a changing please consider my earlier request of also splitting up/down traffic in the report (even if its not displayed to the user but is available in the xml feed.

Edit: just looked at the firefox extension source for the latest version, it doesn't seem to have been changed to reflect the torrent plan... How are we supposed to know when we go over the 75GB?

Don't worry, we heard you ;). The latest Firefox version was pretty much a stopgap to make it compatible with Firefox 3 (you'll note the only thing that changed was the install.rdf file to sign updates and to bump the maximum version number).

There's more on the way though (initially to get support for Torrent out, but long-term we've got some exciting stuff planned!), so stay tuned!

Without an updated usage monitor being released yet (and thoughly tested) those who have jumped onto this plan already might be in for a shock...

Without that monitor, and accurate record of offpeak/onpeak usage, then there could be large bill surprises and disputes over the times such said data was actually downloaded.

It needs to have a real time counter, so users can see it going up when they are online/downloading, and stop when they stop thier activities...so there can be no arguement.

The online 'Traffic Accounting' records will also have to be updated to record acuratley, showing daily reports, broken up hourly, rather than just the monthly report currently showen.

joshp: This is not based on calendar month, it is based on 30 days.

I think the confusion arises because the xnet site refers to "per calendar month" which suggests, for example, 1 May to 31 May rather than from when your plan starts to 30 days later.

Sorry I have just confirmed this. So, it is actually each calendar month.. if you sign up today, you will be given 75 gb of data until the end of the month. A new allowance will be given to you at the beginning of the month. The plan changes are in place for 30 days however, so if you swap on the 21st to the torrent plan, you can not change back to another plan until your 30 days has lapsed.

Just to confirm this again if I join now, regardless ; at the start of the month my data usage will be reset ?

Since Xnet billing cycle start of month to month end.
