DjShadow:

I saw a comment further up saying if network is decommissioned then the overhead needs to be taken down, would they do the same as First Media and leave the underground stuff untouched? Or could Vodafone potentially replace the Coax with Fibre?

I don't think they'd be interested in rolling out their own fibre network. The cable network on its own cost enough to roll out (I know this as I was working at TCL at the time), never mind replacing it with something else.

Will be a shame if the HFC network is shut down.  A bit of competition is always good. I've been a customer since the saturn days and I might have been lucky but cable has always been rock stable for me.  The HFC max I'm on plan is cheap and fast...

Now we have fibre with regulated pricing, so we don't really need a strong competitor in the last mile. It was a different story in the 2000s - Saturn was fighting against Telecom at their worst. It seems like HFC was becoming less cost competitive in recent years

I have been paying for fibre max for over 8 months and havn’t been getting it from Vodafone, at the moment I am having a heck of a time trying to get the 1000mbps that I have been paying for, many phone calls and I don’t seem to be getting anywhere, the last question hy asked was are you using a pc or a laptop, really what does it matter as long as my hardware can handle 1000mbps which by the way it can I am using a MacBook Pro late 2015.

I have asked for a refund of the extra $20 a month that I have been paying for a service that I havnt been getting.

to be continued......

you know over 99% of low speed issues are caused by the customers equipment not by the network.

I could imagine, but when Vodafone have sent me a new Modem/router and my wife’s work lap top and my work lap (all 2019 models) have the same speed issue then that kind of eliminates the equipment issue, especially when I can do a speed test at work and get 866mbps on my work laptop, and our work provider is Vodafone!

If you're testing over wifi, use a network cable - but your post isn't really related to the cable network.

nick - I remember those days! I wonder if maybe it's getting to difficult to repair/source replacement parts for the cable network now, without having to upgrade/replace the entire cable network with newer cable equipment.

@wdhayes having a 2019 laptop means nothing

If you're getting good speeds on another network it does eliminate the device, but assuming that a laptop is capable of delivering Gigabit performance just because it is a 2019 model is a very dangerous assumption to make. Things such as driver issues and security software can make a huge difference to performance. The simple reality is there are multiple threads on here every week about Gigabit performance, and in the vast majority of cases the issue is the hardware or device used for testing.

Even on different late model machines that are capable of Gigabit performance (verified by iperf3 testing) it's not uncommon to see wildly differing performance when testing in a browser, which is why under Windows you should only use the speedtest.net app - but even then the app may not always deliver totally accurate real world results.

@JasonParis - I see you've popped up in another VF thread today, any chance you could comment on this thread? Understood if things are commercially sensitive but even an acknowledgement of some of the concerns raised in this thread would be appreciated 😀

I've only read the headline of the thread...HFC is still an important part of our business and we continue to support it and offer it to customers. Nothing has changed from our perspective. Any individual help - please email me Jason.paris@vodafone.com.

Hope that helps

JP

What about now? (Turns the switch off and on😃) Clearly an error. I’ll ask the team to look into it tomorrow.

Awhile ago there was a post concerning charging for caller ID on your VOIP network you were going to query this charge but nobody from vodafone responded with a answer.
