Just had a text that's available on my phone (S24U on monthly plan). I usually get a weak signal from the bedroom end of my house (Lower Hutt) and no signal/emergency calls only from anywhere in my Mother in law’s house or even street (Waikanae) and my wife has never had signal issues from either with Spark (same phone currently). They are not exactly remote or rural locations so be interesting to see if this makes a difference.

Quite a conundrum...do you visit the MIL to test new tech?

Not specifically to test tech, but tend to be there approx monthly. Will be there for a few days over Xmas so will see if the signal is any better.

My phone, while outside, can now see network 530 04 which Google suggests was originally assigned to TelstraClear / Vodafone. I’m guessing that’s SpaceX albeit the iPhone needs a carrier settings upgrade to properly recognise it.

I don't use social media or instant messaging so this service isn't of any use to me, but I am curious. For those who use TXT, does it bother you that it takes several minutes to send a message? Or would you still use it despite this limitation?

Ah that's possibly what triggers the change in carrier name to One/SpaceX. Interesting, I hope this isn't the reason they're locking 530-04 to specific models only!

Also picking up 530-04 in Manukau on my S21. Pretty cool!

I don't imagine you would see the standard standby cell ID until you didn't have any. Especially if its sms only?

01 and 04 appear to have always been theirs

Like, it's not a live cell site as it were your phone would consider every pass as a nearby. Surely that'd confuse things and be prioritised in some way as a different fall over

530-04 was probably used by TelstraClear back when they operated a limited UMTS network in Tauranga I believe. Sensible to just reuse it rather than get a new MNC issued.

I assume the carrier file that gets pushed out to the phones will include something to ensure that 530-01 is preferred over 530-04.

Is one I fall back on if people want to do raw cell neighbour scan etc.

It appears they did however register 530 13 in March this year...

I've been testing Sat to cell all day on my s24 Ultra. I was able to manually register my phone to the One NZ SpaceX network and send a few texts. The service at the moment seems to be in a VERY beta stage. The signal seems to be very intermittent and messages sometimes wont send at all. I did have a few messages go through instantly which was good to see and I was able to send a text in a moving car which shows its possible to use the service in motion. The RSRP signal strength seems to hang around -128 dBm.

I suspect the update may come out with iOS 18.3

530-13 seems to be the PLMN they're using for SpaceX. 530-04 might be nothing to do with SpaceX -- just noticed I get 530-04 even inside so maybe it's just a testing network.

Looks like only 5MHz bandwidth too -- makes sense I guess to keep it narrow.
