ianajmes: Recording seems to be a piece of cake. Not sure what the limit is on channels is but I recorded 3 at once at the touch of one button. The guide flips back 3 days and I would say that to the claim of 90% of programmes being available looks pretty good.

The limit is which channels are you allowed to 'record' from. I don't imagine there will be a limit on simultaneous channels, because all you are doing it flagging the programme on someone's cloud so you can go back and stream it later. Nothing really gets recorded by that box. Other question is how long do you have to watch something after you've flagged it.
Is Prime available to 'record' or watch three day's back?
Thanks for the updates! :-)

@SteveC you are correct, there is no limit on how many channels can be recorded simultaneously as it's all just flags to the cloud recording (but the channel provider does have to have given us the right to make the cloud PVR recording).  Not relying on tuners or hard disk recording has a number of advantages.

sansom: In terms of your question, negative, it is cheaper to buy Gen1 VTV on a the Ultimate Home broadband bundle... included at no cost when signing up for 12 months.  Ultimate Home is $5/mth more than Smart Connect.. so Gen1 VTV is effectively $60 vs $179 for Gen2 VTV standalone, a $120 delta.

On this page the difference is $15 unless I'm missing something https://www.vodafone.co.nz/broadband/internet-plans/
... but what the Retention Team say might be different again.
Sorry @sansom, forgot to tag you in this post. Is there $5/mth or $15/mth between Ultimate and Smart Connect?

There's a $5/mth difference when you compare like-for-like 12mth term.

ianajmes: ….Not sure how long after recording you have to watch something..will investigate.

I've never lost a recording, some probably 6 months old or more.

DjShadow:

I'm wondering if they have had a bit of demand for this, 24hrs on from ordering and I'm yet to receive a Track/Trace code

I ordered one as well, just gave them a ring and was told that they do not have stock and don't know when they will ship.  If I had known that I would have got a friend to pick us one up and send it to me.

Beta? Newer hardware  and upgraded software. How it performs vs the GEN1 remains in the hands of the new users.

As is the usual case bugs and glitches will come to the surface a bit quicker with the restriction being removed on the service only being usable on Vodafone.

Good point. I will await the results with interest before rushing in to get this upgrade.

Are Vodafone allowed to put their own channels on the device? or they limited by their arrangement with SKY?

The 4K Universe channel just started in the region (on Asiasat 9) the other day. Would be cool to see Vodafone beat other NZ broadcasters in having a 4K channel up and running.

In addition to 4K, since it comes with the Netflix app can the unit play out Dolby Atmos?

Ordered on the VF website on 16 Sep.

Visa payment complete.

Still no response from VF.  😕

Why promote a new product if it's not in stock?

Somewhere in the Great Convoluted Cosmos that is Telecommunications Company Marketing in general, and Vodafone NZ in particular, that is ultimately a question for @JasonParis !

Edit - to be fair, it is not just Telcos (although I would argue they are worst for doing it). Hyundai are spending many thousands of dollars marketing a car on TV which is not available, and has no infrastructure supporting its use! https://www.hyundai.co.nz/next-gen/fuel-cell-technology (That is assuming it can safely do what it claims to begin with.)
