chiefie: What's wrong with this forum here now? There are at two other T-Box related topics as well.

No problem for us as we're here - but guessing that lots of T-Box users don't know that geekzone exists Smile?

We're fortunate to have TCL and ZollyMonsta keep eyes on here. However, TCL have their beta forum for selected beta testers as well as their internal/staff field-testing. What is on offered right now is early-adopters, which most likely be people more adventurous and no doubt geeks like us jump on at it without missing a pulse.

Hi Cheifie, Zollymonster and TCL

I weren't aware that the T-box is still in its beta stage. I thought I missed out on the beta stage and were never at any stage told that by Telstra that my install was a beta test install.

I am sure there  likely to be teething problems, but I thought thats why we all waited soooooo long for the final release, as Telstra didn't want to release it into the market untill they were sure they had all of them sorted.

The thing that really annoys me is that I have talken 1.5 days of my annual leave to be at home so they can do the install and I am worse off now than when they started.

I am still going to have take more leave if I want them to try and install it again and I am sure it has cost me alot more than the saving of the $99 waiver of instal fee currently being offered.

It is post beta test stage, however it certainly feels like TCL is bringing it out for more customers who wants to get on it ASAP, with limited stock supply. The firmware is good enough but obvious more touching up and improvement to be made as more customers are using it in-and-out.

I just used the term "open beta" for my saying, it is not what TCL thinks though, so don't go quoting that it is "beta test" stage.

Like I found few things that could improve my usage better, but that might been thought of by other people that developing it. So I just feed it through my other topic as feature request.

As for installation problem, it is very new and fresh for Downers as well as the TCL team to do larger scale installation.

Until the last update the software was fine. It was the update just before release that broke a few things. I would think as soon as they have what went wrong sorted a new one will be applied. They are not the only company that has had daylight savings break software as my iphone was the same.

I had to reboot my T-Boxes last night as both my Sky Movies HD and Sky Movies Greats HD have louder background sounds than the vocal... reboot took about 10mins and all fine then.

I had both of them on standby the night before, so it didn't get its update from 29th Sept 0000hr I guess.

The thing is they have made a public announcement - Facebook and callbacks etc.  Some early adopters won't mind being part of the customer based testing - but many will - me being one of them.

MySkyHDi was a success for me as my wife could use it after 2 minutes of training from the tech and we've not had any problems since.  She would be ripping it out and giving me earache if it had to be rebooted or was slow, pixelated, funny sound.

This has the potential to continue to be a PR disaster for TCL - bad enough continually breaking promises on delivery, only to deliver a product that they cannot install properly and is experiencing broadcast and technical problems!  Saying it's a new install is just an excuse for lack of training.

Procrastination eventually pays off.

Morph: No probs apart from Rain fade hehe

TBH in the 5 months I've had Sky I've only had rain fade once and it lasted about 10 seconds.  The truth is, I would rather have TCL delivering my HD content - I didn't like Sky in the UK and I suspect with any duopoly you get shafted by one of the other at some point.

Reasons for switching were valid - I wanted to watch the World Cup in HD and be able to easily record.  Sky had it - TCL were full of empty promises and a buggy PVR.  I've had 5 months of trouble free use, free installation, free HD, free MySkyHDi and half price Movies and Sport.  At the end of the 6 month offer - I will get rid of the movies sport and HD (still get the domestic channels) - don't need them.

At the end of the 12 months, it will have cost me less to be with Sky than it would have to stay with TCL.  At that point in time I will look and see who has the better product, offer and reliability.  Got to say I'm interested by the iSky offering - but it depends on whether TCL manage to open up some of their "potential".  If I decide not to stay with Sky, I will be left with a satellite dish that I can use on freeview after the analogue switch off for one of my older TVs.

My T-box install has failed to happen again and if its doesn't happen by the end of today it will be 2.5 days waisted waitng for it to be installed.

I rang TCL to ask why Downer, this installers in my area, hadn't contacted me re my install this morning and they followed it up.

Downer rang my Wife to say that the system was down again they couldn't even even do the install they were currently working on, so there was no point in even trying ours today and they would contact her to arrange another time.

I rang TCL again and they told me that there was nothing they could do as it was a Downer issue and was up to them to sort it out.

I didn't realise that I had a contract with Downer as I pay TCL, or looking more and more like USED to pay TCL.

I have since found out that the system was up again, from a undisclosed source within the industry, and to try and contact Downer to get the T-box installed today.

But alias by the time finished listening to the wonderful calming onhold music from TCL and spoke to a person, the system had gone down again!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I then rang Sky and they can have My Sky installed  and up and running tomorrow.

As I don't really want to change my TCL triple service account and have to shift away from TCL, I will wait to after the weekend before I finally give up on TCL.

Around world Cup time someone posted a contact on here for extra special deals for SkyTv.

Does anybody still have the details.

I am not sure if it is Ironic or not but the name of the company doing the installs out my way is Downer?

Cheers
From soon to be Ex TCL customer.

RexHavoc: Had my 2 T-Boxes installed today after booking on Saturday. The install was relatively straight forward and everything is working as it should :)
The only minor issue being Telstra did not enable the HD Ticket and when I called to enable it they had no idea how to do it :|

Now to reprogram my Harmony Remote :)

... 2 days later and they still dont know how to enable the 'HD Ticket' :(

Hi Kiwipal,

We understand your frustration in
having your T-Box installed.

We’d like to stress that it is not a
T-Box hardware issue.

We have been having provisioning
issues due to strong customer demand and our implementation of the Broadband Speed and Data cap increase for our InHome
customers.

Please email me you customer number
to online.marketing@telstraclear.co.nz
and I’ll have the install team contact you very
soon

Thanks
