If you are in an area with only ADSL1 the reduced speeds you are experiencing are likely to be due to congestion at the exchange.

Some here might have suggestions of alternative broadband access if you detail your location.

mattbush:
andrewNZ: Vodafone may not be able to do anything at all about your speeds, it may simply be congestion.

However, it's time to ask yourself if you are willing to put up with this level of service. You may think you've gotten somewhere, but what about next time you have to call them...

Vodafone is overselling its capacity and we can blame the "unlimited" deals in all probability.

We know by now that Vodafone doesn't give a toss about its residential customers and has been encouraging us all to change ISP's for almost 12 months now.

incorrect the end user is connected to a ADSL1 connection in a rural location, All users no matter what ISP they are with connected to the same bit of hardware will be experiencing the same peak time congestion,

Calling your ISP will add zero value as they can't do anything for you

@humvee as I suspected ticket is closed

' Description: The DSLAM this customer is connected to is congested, unfortunately there are no plans to upgrade this DSLAM at this time '

There is actually no fault just congestion on the Chorus hardware and looks like no plans to upgrade the hardware at this stage

humvee: Is it possible to find out if there is a wait list for our cabinet? it is CU/BB, It is located at the intersection of Downs Road and south eyre road Eyrewell - North Canterbury - IE could I be faced with this problem?

@ OP (without flogging a dead horse)

What will resolve your throughput issue quickly:

  • Moving to wireless RBI with VF or another provider.
  • Moving to satellite or a wireless ISP (non RBI).

What might resolve your issue (long term):

  1. Get in contact with a Chorus case / investment manager. This can be done by emailing Chorus or through reps etc.
  2. Get about 80 - 200 signatures from people (if there are that many) off the same cabinet you are on.
  3. If they deem there is enough demand, they might consider investing in an ISAM or Micro ISAM, in the next budget or two.

What won't resolve your throughput issue:

  • Changing provider - any DSL connection from any provider through the Conklin / ASAM you are on, is going give you the same result.

If RBI is available...

Vodafone sales are not too bad and you can negotiate a deal /  discount or increase in data cap, if you push hard enough.
I would probably go with their RBI as it is proven, has unlimited national calling and would push for a better deal on the data cap.
