Hi Everyone, thanks for your patience and interest - we have now launched Fusion Unlimited.

I know a few of you have bits of information, and there are various forums talking about our plans, so I thought i would post a topic that would try to cover the main points.

So briefly (and without trying to sell anything :))

- $99 per month including GST
- No data caps
- Homeline is included - ie our VFX feature set
- includes an MP264 box
- 24 month contract
- Free standard installation

We are also providing the best access type for your address at the same monthly price, i.e:
Ie ADSL --> VDSL
     ADSL --> UFB Fibre
     VDSL --> UFB Fibre

There are other bits and pieces - which are on our website.

In terms of speed increase, it means for the same monthly price you will get upgraded to the best access method available via WXC, even if this access method is not available now. For instance those areas where UFB is pending, we will upgrade you mid contract for the same monthly price. There are a few specific terms here - you may need to cover off any further install charges, but it is intended to provide certainty that you will be upgraded. Down the track, we may also look at higher speed variants (for example Chorus's Boost range when released) if this can be done within the price. Note the MP264 is capable across all these access types, so no need for a new box.

We have put in the right to apply traffic management - e.g. shaping P2P or applying fair use policies - but hope we don't have to do this.

I know there are questions about BYOD or older devices - we have put in the MP264 as part of the price to try and address this. There are a lot of reasons for this - we test as exhaustively possible our boxes and we believe the MP264 gives the best experience and can operate across the different access types (this is how we can offer the free speed upgrade). By having a tested, certified device WXC can be sure of the quality of our voice services.

Hello... Our robot found some keywords in your post, so here is an automated reply with some important things to note regarding broadband speeds.

If you are posting regarding DSL speeds please check that

- you have reset your modem and router

- your PC (or other PCs in your LAN) is not downloading large files when you are testing

- you are not being throttled by your ISP due to going over the monthly cap

- your tests are always done on an ethernet connection to the router - do not use wireless for testing

- you read this topic and follow the instructions there.

Make sure you provide information for other users to help you. If you have not already done it, please EDIT your post and add this now:

- Your ISP and plan

- Type of connection (ADSL, ADSL2, VDSL)

- Your modem DSL stats (do not worry about posting Speedtest, we need sync rate, attenuation and noise margin)

- Your general location (or street)

- If you are rural or urban

- If you know your connection is to an exchange, cabinet or conklin

- If your connection is to a ULL or wholesale service

- If you have done an isolation test as per the link above

Most of the problems with speed are likely to be related to internal wiring issues. Read this discussion to find out more about this. Your ISP is not intentionally slowing you down today (unless you are on a managed plan). Also if this is the school holidays it's likely you will notice slower than usual speed due to more users online.

A master splitter is required for VDSL2 and in most cases will improve speeds on DSL connections. Regular disconnections can be a monitored alarm or a set top box trying to connect. If there's an alarm connected to your line even if you don't have an alarm contract it may still try to connect so it's worth checking.

Hi Glen,

I purchased a MP264 from you about 6 months ago so do not need this, I see this is included free of charge on the Fusion unlimited.
As I have already purchased one can I still do the Fusion unlimited but with out the 24 month term?

That's a sharp price for unlimited VDSL. Are you playing the "we don't need a master splitter" trick like BigPipe does? I guess if you're offering VoIP over Naked VDSL, you don't need a splitter...

What options are there for your home/small business customer? This is an area where I have promoted your services for a long time, but seems they are being left behind. As good as the AudioCodes box is, these customers often need more flexibility with service and hardware.

Hi All,

Thanks for the questions - and if you have emailed Cameron all good. However as a general response:

1. Those customers with an existing MP264, you can join the new service no problem with your existing box. Everything else will be the same (price, upgrade promise, unlimited data, contract term etc.) except you will not be required to return the box on cancellation (obviously). If you are in a contract with us already with an MP264 you will be not charged a termination fee to move across.

2. Yes it is very competitive in the VDSL space - and with the next development of the product we are expecting - it will be super competitive in the Chorus UFB areas. We are also providing a full installation for VDSL - i.e. Ethernet to a chosen jackpoint - no requirement for a master splitter. Fusion Unlimited is only a converged service - i.e. Internet and VoIP (VFX) line.

3. Small business services - agreed. We are working on it.

I will be on geekzone for another couple of days to answer questions - so feel free.

So I'm on a WXC fibre connection at the moment getting 30Mbps down, I called up intending to switch to the unlimited plan but was told that I don't get the free speed upgrade because I'm already on fibre... They can only provide 30Mbps.

They way I read the terms and conditions I should get the full speed available with my connection which I imagine is 100Mbps down...

So what's the story? Have the call staff got the wrong idea? Or are the t's and c's misleading?

Hi Ham,

The answer you have been given is correct, although not the whole story. At the moment the fastest WXC provide on UFB is 30Mbps - so there is no immediate upgrade for you, as you are on the best available access variant: fibre. "Full speed" is capped by the variant offered by the access supplier (not just the access capability) and selected by WXC for use - in this case 30Mbps.

The wider point is that we are always looking at the availability of higher speed variants from NZ’s core suppliers, particularly with the Chorus Boost range for example. We cannot promise this yet - but we are working hard to make this available as part of the free speed upgrade if and when we release it.

You can of course transfer to the new service to get no data charges.

Well that's disappointing. I had no idea you were not able to provide customers the capability that other telcos can. Probably not a good idea for me to sign up for 2 years, for a product that is already about a year behind the rest of the providers offerings then...

I can't find anywhere if the now requisite MP264 box is capable of running an openVPN server or a dynamic DNS updater. Both of these are services I currently use & need from my router, which in general means a 3rd party firmware such as tomato or dd-wrt.

Alternately, can the MP264 be set up in simple bridge mode i.e. it acts as the modem and VOIP adapter, but is able to send the ADSL/VDSL/Fibre connection transparently through to an alternative router/network setup?

I guess my question is relevant to businesses etc. who, as noted above, require more than just a one-box solution.

Thanks, CB. Could I use it as a modem as well (like my current Vigor 110, except also VDSL and UFB capable)?

I don't think it can do full bridge if that's what you mean, and if it could, then the VFX line on it would not work.

This appears to be one of the issues with the AudioCodes product - the feature set is largely unknown / unpublished. As an example, with the Cisco SRP500 series (supported for VFX), they've got inbuilt VPN server and DDNS as you need. The WxC site lists some of the feature set for the MP264, but there doesn't seem to be a user manual or similar that comprehensively covers what it will and won't do available publicly. This won't affect the average home user who wants to watch Netflix and game, but would you lock in to a 24 month contract with a very specific hardware requirement that may or may not get you the services you require?

From a customer perspective, I would have thought that allowing use of any of the VFX certified hardware is an obvious solution, as the provisioning systems etc are all in place (and clearly work well!), and it then allows a good deal of flexibility in terms of customer requirements.

Perhaps a new thread covering in more detail the feature set of the MP264 would also help?

IMHO that's a fairly expensive and underutilised ATA though.
