Hi,

I am trying to setup the Bria softphone on my iphone for VFX (WxC) and am getting a '401 authorisation' error.

I have read a few posts on this but am not clear on some of the settings especially the Auth Name?  I think the Auth Name and the Account Name need to be different but WxC do not seem to be able to provide the info I need?  I know others have been successful and was hoping someone might be able to help?

The settings I have tried are:

Account Name: VFX username (xxxxxxx@xport.co.nz)
Enabled: On
Display As: VFX
Username: 4xxxxxxx (My phone number with area code and no leading zero-my number is a wellington number)
Domain: pan.wxnz.net
VM Number: (Blank)
Dial Plan: (No settings)

Account Advanced
Out. Proxy: pan.wxnz.net
Auth Name: VFX username (xxxxxxx@xport.co.nz)
Send DTM using: RFC 2833
Global IP: On
Global IP 3G: On
Use Tel Uri: Off
SIP Transport: UDP
Encrypt Audio: Never
Incoming Calls: On
Single Register: Off
Refresh Interval: 180
Wifi Interval: 30
Cell Interval: 9

I am using Vodafone as my phone carrier.

What am I doing wrong?

I would really appreciate your help.

I had read that post and followed the instructions but was not successful.  The post was not that clear on what the 'Username' 'Authname' and 'Account Name' were.  I have provided more detail on what I have used for these fields and was hoping someone might confirm my interpretation as being correct.

auth and user name is not @xport that's the web portal user name,

the auth name is in your welcome email and we be about a 20 digit random one very much like the password,

there are 2 parts in the email the first part is the web portal logon, further down the p[age is the account details

user name is the phone number 9xxx xxxx
auth is the 20 digit random entry
password is similar to the auth name

Voicemail is 082210 btw

Thanks Maveric,

I did not receive an email with that info.  After talking with WxC they indicated that I needed 'Open VFX' and that if i changed to this I would need to manually configure my Voice Adaptor.  Is this difficult and are there any instructions on this that I might get my hands on?

Thanks heaps for your help.

I have found this post with a config file.  http://www.geekzone.co.nz/sbiddle/7208.  Do you recommend using this?  As an aside the only reason I am doing this is to get a softphone working?  Is this more hasstle than it is worth moving to 'Open VFX'?

Would like to get a softphone working but do not want to risk loss of call quality through my home base analogue phone?  Am I opening a can of worms?

Hi Mathew,

I see you have a VFX certified setup with a 2102, basically you can not run a softphone with this. The number is assigned to the device and the configuration and settings are set by us to make sure you have the best quality and experience. You can not run the 2102 and a softphone at the same time as they would be conflicting with each other with the same details.

OpenVFX is a option we have that enables you to bring your own device , but due to the large amount of different devices , settings etc we do not offer any support as such our support staff would spend to much time on the phones trying to work out new devices with custys , but with OpenVFX we do you send you the details so that you can setup a softphone etc because at the moment you do not actually have the details for this it is hidden with the config you only get these with open VFX, the details you will have is the web portal ones , these allow you to control all your services from a web portal but doesn't have the actual config settings.

Thanks maveric. If I signup to open vfx will I be provided with clear documentation on the process of configuring my spa2102 by wxc?

If you have a certified device I see absolutely no reason why you'd want to be on the OpenVFX service.

Thanks for your responses.

Prior to joining WxC I asked the technical team if it was possible to run a softphone over their fusion product.  I was told that whilst they did not provide support for this, it was technically possible and that I could get support on setting this up on various internet forums.

My post to this site was initiated because since establishing the Fusion product with WxC I wanted to get the Bria Softphone working.  Thanks to the helpful respondents I have now been made aware of the fact that this is not possible over Fusion with standard VFX.  To do this I need what they call 'Open VFX'.

This would require me to configure the SPA 2102 myself.

I am prepared to move to 'Open VXF' if WxC are able to provide documented instructions on manually configuring my SPA2102 so my home phone will work (Which is a supported WxC device).  I understand that WxC do not provide Phone Support for this and would be prepared to take the risk of resolving issues myself but only if there was some form of documented support on manually configuring the SAP2102 for the Open VFX solution.

This prompted my subsequent posting to confirm exactly what documented support WxC provide if I move to 'Open VFX'.  Maveric's posting to me was not clear as he alluded to the fact that WxC do provide documented support?  I Quote:

" but with OpenVFX we do you send you the details so that you can setup a softphone etc because at the moment you do not actually have the details for this it is hidden with the config you only get these with open VFX"

So my question still stands.  If I move to 'Open VFX' do WxC provide documented instructions on configuring the supported device SPA2102.

To clarify why I would move to 'Open Vfx' (Sbiddle) it is to get a softphone working in addition to my home phone?  If the process of configuring the SPA2102 is complicated, and I am advised that WxC provide no documented support, and I am advised that it is going to expose me to all sorts of issues then I won't move to 'Open VFX' as the benefit of the softphone would not offset the pain.

Thanks again for your contributions.

Normal VFX is configured against supported hardware
Open VFX allows you to bring your own device

Yes you can use supported hardware with open VFX but we do not give the configuration details and this is due to the intellectual property, most of the other providers that have come into the market never have had a full config deployment model we have since day one , for them it's a bring your own see how it goes they are happy to just get "numbers on the Board", we from day one have been a PSTN IP replacement service in that all the services , dial tone , ring tones , dial planes etc work exactly the same as the PSTN so really there should be no difference to the customers experience except that we have a hell of lot more services etc , by freely giving these out it would be very easy for copy cats to watch what we do and try to copy it. All our stuff just works and has done for years that's why we believe we lead this space, see the issues others are having with just a simple Call waiting, giving people details on what we do and how we do it is not really a good option.

In saying that there has been some great work by some people , Steves Biddles work in supplying config examples is pretty damn good, it's not the same as ours but it's as close as you will get and you will not have to many issue at all with this setup, just remember you can not use a 2102 and a softphone at the same time , it's one or the other

Thanks Maveric.  You have clarified the situation nicely.  I think I will stay with the current set-up.  As an aside... are WxC looking to offer a softphone as part of their Fusion service in the future?

Yes and you can do it now , you could run a second line and have that on OpenVFX and use that for your softphone

By another line you mean another number?  I think the charge is $6 per month? (as described in Advanced Features).

Is it possible to have the same number with both lines? I.e. make both phones ring when someone is calling you?
