Simple answer is yes - there are already private LTE networks in NZ being operated by private companies and WISPs and they will naturally evolve to 5G as hardware becomes available.

If you're willing to spend ~$7k ish on a LTE base station to be able to deploy any of the existing hardware solutions (some of which are compatible with freedomfi) there is nothing stopping you except for suitable spectrum and licencing of that spectrum which is why all the networks operating in NZ right now are in the MSP band.

Hmm ok, well it may be one possible solution to my lack of decent bandwidth on my ADSL1 connection.... just need to locate the 5G basestation somehwere with decent backhaul capacity I guess, and my internet connection will become usable!

I'm sure there are more cost effective ways of fixing your internet than the $100k or so that would cost.

You could deploy LTE for around $10k + (from memory) around $700 or so per year for spectrum licencing.

There are several WISP and private LTE networks in NZ. No 5G because there are only very limited options for 5G hardware.

Last i checked, Jesse is just reselling RBI where he doesn't have PTMP. otherwise all of the managed spectrum PTMP is on wiimax etc (excluding council gear)

There are two wisps both rolling out LTE BTS's right now though, some really nice results for that MSP space.

Co-locating on RCG towers and other site builds. Using AirFibre variations for backhaul and Cambium 5GHz kit for link to end users. No LTE etc at this stage (apart from RBI), Jesse did look at this a while ago, I think with Blue Reach??, but didn't take it further.
