Hi everyone,
I just did a rebuild of my MCE box and clean installed Vista Home Premium.
I have a 250GB sata2 drive as my windows boot drive. This is on Sata1 port on the mboard. I have 1 other sata on controller port 2, and two ide drives. in the disk utility for Windows it shows the 2 ide drives as 0 and 1, and the 2 sata drives as 2 and 3.
I just noticed that if i shutdown and restart the computer it boots to a NON SYSTEM DISK error asking me to enter a system disk.
I've checked the bios and found this drive to be first in line to boot from, i've also manually selected to boot from it when i start up the computer. both options yield the same result with the error appearing.
I've found also that if i have my windows dvd in the dvd rom drive and then try to boot up, i get the "Press any key to boot from cd" message, if i leave this the hard disk then boots up?! Any idea what is going on here? clearly the disk is okay but can anyone tell me why it won't boot up on its own? i'm not even booting from the dvd, its just in the drive - it spins up, it asks me to boot from it or not, i ignore it, the hard drive kicks in and boots up. so strange!
any help would be great.
thanks
