Hi guys guess what! (sorry i wont cut long story short just bear with me thanks)

Got a dell for birthday in Dec. Came in XP with "free vista upgrade". Then they made me pay $40 for "shipping". Waited 6 months. Last Friday it arrived!

Ok so it had 2 DVDs. "DELL VISTA UPGRADE ASSISTANT" and "OPERATING SYSTEM"
Per instructions do all the things the upgrade assistant tells you. Backup first. The upgrade assistant will prepare your system for vista installation.

Step 3 - you must reflash your BIOS. Well didnt seem like i have a choice. Clicked ok. 50% done ... 96 % done ... then x hits the fan. "FAILURE!!! FAILURE!!! FAILURE!!!" it said. That's it! Huh?

Now my motherboard is broken. Cant start the computer after logging out of XP. They better fix this.

OK NOW MY QUESTION. Once they fix it I plan to dual install onto another partition. DOES ANYONE KNOW, if i run into problems can i just delete the new partition and just let the hard drive boot from C: (ie XP)?

i just bit the bullet and dual booted the thing and it worked!
once it failed to load (black screen) but never happened since - fingers crossed

however some soft and hardwares arent doing what they're supposed to... despite the pre vista check in fact there are stuff it warned wont work but they did! heh heh hmmm lost my tv tuner though :( glad i've still got the xp :)
