Hi guys,

I installed a trial version of McAfee Anti Virus 2008.  Before I could proceed, it asked me to uninstall Spybot due to incompatibility issues.  Is there a work around to this?  I am stunned that McAfee would do this!  Spybot is a great third party application.  I am a fan of McAfee all these years.  Thanks.

McAfee 2008 comes with its own anti-spyware bits, plus backup, anti-virus, web filters, etc.

In general is ok to mix anti-virus and anti-spyware, but not a good idea to have two of the same.

I find that often Spybot picks up tracking cookies whereas major anti-virus software don't.  Is this something to be worried about?  Or is Spybot just over-vigilant?

Cookies are simply text files stored on your computer by your browser. They are not executables and are harmless. Sites use them for a variety of things - for example Geekzone uses a cookie to store the information needed for automatic loging if you check the box, Amazon stores some information about your shopping cart login and so on.

Lots of anti-spyware programs count cookies and show a number screaming "infection" when in fact they are just bits of information. Leave them alone I say...
