Tonight I unplugged my laptop from the tv, something happened and it will not boot into windows, subsequently my external TV display wont work and my laptop bios thinks it is still on external and therefore wont display its own LCD screen. My laptop is in limbo, and I cannot see a thing! I need somehow to access the laptop to get it to boot into windows - any ideas, I cannot use the fn f5 and if I put a boot disk in I need to access the bios to change the boot order. It seems I need to say goodbye to this laptop, absolutely nothing is wrong with it, I have just managed to get some settings all screwed up, I am amazed I could do this.

Have you made sure numlock or scroll lock were off first?

Yes, I have tried this, thanks. It seems to stop booting at the windows boot chooser (where you have choices after a bad shutdown)

Disconnect the external power and remove the battery.

Then hold down the power button for a good 60 seconds or so.

Then reconnect the battery and power and try booting it again.

Thank you. I will try this tonight. I have taken the battery out and disconnected the power supply, but have not held down the power button as you stated.

I am finding this a very unusual problem - will teach me for plugging in my tv and buying a wireless keyboard and mouse.

Well... I tried the above and it worked, but Vista hung, so I retried it and it didnt work, in fact I have now tried it probably 50 times and it has worked about 4 times. When I can boot into vista and it hangs, it has the default monitor as my external TV. I am wondering if I am quick enough I could change the default monitor and restart? Not sure how to change the default monitor in display settings - it seems to be just default.

Is there a monitor setting in the BIOS? You could try changing that first, if you do not have time in Vista before it hangs.

Thanks, I will try that, am at work still attempting to get the screen to work before I can get to the bios, I have found a clip and have placed that on the power button to see if I can hold it down for an extended period. I have restarted about 30 times today with two successes.
