Hi all,

The other day i managed to setup web hosting using XP & IIS no worries with my Xtra broadband connection.

Basically all that was required was add a NAT rule to my faithfull DSL-302g to open up port 80, then saving/re-booting modem.

I tested this by using dial-up with my laptop, then successfully pinged the IP of my broadband connection & loaded a test html page from IIS.

I'm now trying to setup the web hosting using WinServer03 & IIS but it doen't want to work. Can't ping IP address or see test page.

Does anyone know of any extra stuff i need to do when using Winserver03??

BTW i have Winserver03 setup as a router as well.

ok... figured it out.

Turned off the routing functionality & can ping from external location ok.

Set up Routing again & in the routing GUI checked the NAT for the NIC thats connected to the internet.
There is a basic firewall option which when set to disabled allows a ping & the site to be connected to externally.

I'll play around with the settings & see if i can find some sort of compromise where by i can keep the firewall on but still let through port 80 calls?

On a scale of 1-10 how dodgy/insecure is my setup at present?? ;)

Next thing on the list to attempt... VPN

You can add exceptions to the firewall. Simply configure it to accept incoming connections on port 80. You can enable PING by configuring it to accept ICMP packets.

I wouldn't run without a firewall - any - running.
