Hi Could any one tell me in reletivly simple terms how to format my 40gb hdd for Vista and XP without deleting my files? Thanks

Formatting a drive will erase all the files on it.
You may be able to repartition it though, how much space is used?

You will need to make two partitions for xp and vista. PartitionMagic can do this for you. Make sure that vista partition is at least 20gbs.

Trying to repartition a drive with files and OS on it is always risky - particularly if you want to set up a dual boot system.

IMHO if you don't have a spare HDD I wouldn't bother attempting it (especially with Vista) unless you can afford to lose everything on your drive.

If you are going to use Vista you want at least 40Gb for it.

I have safely partitioned my XP drive so i could use earlier versions of Vista. But you should never run a beta OS on your main PC unless you have a seperate HDD for it or are willing to lose everything.

Also, you will never be able to run Vista on only 256Mb RAM. Waste of time IMO
