i7-920 @ 4.6ghz, 24gb ddr3-1600, Samsung 830 128gb, Radeon 6870.

Faster across the board. Much faster. Splash screen pops up on the screen for about half a second during boot then straight to the login screen. 3-4 seconds of windows splash screen on 7.

Have absolutely no plans on going back to 7

I would be really interested in someone posting boot and shutdown times on a clean installation of 7 and 8.... it looks like most folks have upgraded from 7 so the comparison is not fair (assuming that 7 has been used for some time, and suffers from the general windows progressive slow down)

Ive been using it since it was officially released (so 3+ months now). I've not noticed any slow down.

My HP Elitebook does have problems with Windows 8 and Sleep. Well it goes to sleep but sometimes cant be woken. Had to change the settings to Hibernate and that fixed it.

I upgrade my Win7 to Win8 on same hardware and as others have already said. I saw a great improvement in how quick it starts up and shuts down. Had some driver issues for motherboard, wireless card etc as it was not out for Win8 but most vendors have released Win8 drivers now.

I find it is quicker to start, login, restart. Once at the desktop media center is slower to load, but once it is loaded it is very fast compared to Win7. Also the mediabrowser addin for media center is a lot faster.
