Then tried out Cortana by setting the language and location to the US but then it wanted me to logon to a Microsoft account. I have one but it seemed doing that would mean I would need to use a Microsoft account logon for that PC and I much prefer a local account.  Is that the case? The message was not clear at all.

You do need to sign in with a Microsoft account if you want to use Cortana - unless you're on a domain in which case you can add your Microsoft account alongside your domain account.

Heh I wish I could, if I try to add an account on my AD enabled machine, the window starts drawing, and then closes. No errors. Can't add a MS Account.

Is there a reason you prefer the local account over the Microsoft account for logon on that PC?  There are a bunch of benefits you can get using a Microsoft account - including synching your settings etc across multiple PCs via the cloud.

I want to add MS as a secondary account on my home computer, I like my local authentication (I have had a number of times where trying to login to my home PC has resulted in it giving an error about being unable to reach Windows Servers or something. 5 minutes later it was ok.

MS's recent lack of transparency doesn't fill me with confidence around the way it handles my data and I also (admittedly could be a lack of knowledge in this area) can't see to find a control panel that lets me decide what settings I want in the cloud, so that when I go to a new PC and login, I can decide what I want copied to said machine.

garbonzai: Don't know if it's already been mentioned,

but the onscreen keyboard for my tablet will not show a lot of the times when needed to type txt and yes it's in table mode.

Gone back to 8.1 on my little tablet, keyboard would not show most of the time and it lagged badly, so that's 2 out of 3 back to previous system, but as I have said before my old Compaq c700 from 2007 has had it for about 3+ weeks and seems to have been born to run win 10, runs very well, pitty the newer things don't.

I have now switched from Chrome to Firefox because of Windows 10 and it's crappy URL + anchor tag bug (which could possibly be a Chrome problem though).

Not using Edge until it supports LastPass at least.

The settings you want are on the hte main menu 'settings'->'privacy' .... there are a lot of settings under that. Note, the default is pretty much share everything.

You can still find the old control panel under 'main menu'->'all apps'->'windows system'->'control panel'.

I agree about the lack of transparency. I am not certain if you turn off all Internet sharing in 'privacy' then it actually stops all sharing of such info..

It seems Chrome devs know about this problem - see here.

this site here does a pretty good rundown of all the configurable settings and what they do: http://lifehacker.com/what-windows-10s-privacy-nightmare-settings-actually-1722267229

I've never had a situation where I couldn't log into my pc, but if you do then you should still be able to at least pull the cable and log in - unless you are somehow forcing logins not to be cached.

It's actually happened to me a number of times, on both my W8+ machines that have MS accounts as primary.

Getting under my desk is significantly inconvenient. I don't know why MS insist that having a MS account should take over the primary login.

I hope I'm not the only person with disappearing/missing icons from the Start Menu.

I have some apps pinned to the Start Menu - e.g. Spotify. But whenever I restart my Windows, they're gone from pinned Start Menu.

Why is that so??

Yup seen it. So many erratic things happening in W10.

What is more interesting is that I saw almost none of those in the insider builds!

Thank you!

I kept saying to myself that I must have not pinned the app...

I found that those missing apps are usually ones that aren't installed into the common Program Files folder - Spotify is installed automatically onto user's roaming profile. I have TeamSpeak Client installed as single-user instead off all users. And I have a few Chrome Apps pinned too... and some pinned apps that are located in other drives. They all disappeared after a restart!

I have a very small window of opportunity before Microsoft NZ Ignite keynote to chat with Joe Belfiore, Corp VP PC, Tablet and Phones. Any special questions - and being realistic here, not specific complains but directions, strategy, etc.

My question would be: Currently TH2 is being released as new builds to Windows Insiders. When it is finalised will it be a full build upgrade like like the current Windows 7/8 to 10 experience or more like a service pack installation of old?

Probably won't get an answer but it will be nice if you can try :)

Will we see new system that actually shipped with Windows 10 and not 8.1 and with upgradeability to Windows 10?
