To try to avoid further cluttering up the "what time does Windows launch?" thread, I've decided to make a new one. Feel free to hijack it for other questions not related to the installation process.

My latest question is around how to either check for app updates, or show a list of installed updates. I installed 10 at home yesterday and the Store app had 17 app updates in it, which I installed. I'm now at work and Store isn't showing the "updates" icon up the top. Either I need to somehow tell it to look for updates (how?) or it's installed them in the background (how can I tell?)

[Moderator edit (MF): changed subject to indicate this is a general thread where people can put their questions on release date]

you don't have a Downloads menu in the Store where you can click Check for Updates?

Well I'm on the right track now; I didn't realise that you could click on the "8" to open a menu, but that menu does indeed have Downloads.

The "Downloads and installs" screen has a "Check for updates" button which spins for a few seconds but does nothing else.

I have a question, will you be able to right click the favourites bar in Edge in the future and create a bookmark or folder?

A couple of things...

  • Fingerprint login: I uninstalled the HP Security Client (as it should be uninstalled anyway) and have updated the fingerprint scanner driver in preparation for Windows 10 - Nathan mentioned before that it should just "work". I go into Account and there's no option for fingerprint login or enrollment.
  • Why is that some windows (mainly system windows such as Control Panel options and Settings options) open, close and open again?

Right click on that Quick access tab on the side and click the Open File Explorer option to This PC.

This should be like usual if I remember correctly.

Once you've done the upgrade, is there a way to find your Windows 10 product key? E.G. if you wanted later to do a full offline reinstall, or your hardware changed so it couldn't match to your key stored in the cloud?

One this I cant figure out is how to snap to the split screen thing two apps for example mail and OneNote side by side. I used to do this by dragging in the previously used program and it would split it in two. Anyone know the new way?

Installed 10 on two machines today - one used to run 7 and the other 8.1.  Has anyone noticed that in Control Panel under Backup and Restore there is a reference to Windows 7 - Backup and restore files created with Windows 7?  This appears on BOTH machines - even the 8.1 machine which has never had 7...  Strangley when I click on the link it advises me there are no files created under 7.

if you go into settings and then system and click on about , there's a product id that may be the key as it is different on all my pc upgrades.

Common sense is not as common as you think.
