Only just discovered the existence of this -

https://www.tomsguide.com/how-to/how-to-install-windows-11-right-now-and-avoid-the-wait

specifically the Windows 11 Installation Assistant.

Gave up waiting for 11 to install through Windows Update and used that to do the install on my main home PC.  Went super quick not unlike a large Windows Update.

Yep, I'm dying to give it a go, but I always seem to have one more thing to do, one more thing to do, one more...

Installed on non-supported Surface Go (again), fresh ISO from USB stick. Working well and have shifted to the insider beta channel as I would like to test out Android app.

Awoke this morning and decided to install on my Surface Book 2, which is my 'production' laptop for work one could say. Knowing I had today and Monday to roll back if needed. Going through multiple updates currently, but installed super quick.

One thing, setup won't connect to wireless set with WPA2\WPA3 security, I had to downgrade my wireless security first. Strange as when I was running Win10 the book2 had no issues connecting. Assume a driver update will solve that.

Also, the Mrs has a Surface Laptop 3, she is getting prompts to upgrade to Win11 via updates, nothing for the Book2, used the ISO.

The little things make the biggest difference.

i would like to make a correction.

the laptop i bought has a massive trackpad and i've just discovered that i had my palm on the trackpad most of the time, causing most of the issues where trackpad action was not responsive.

so there is NO issue with "microstuttering" with windows 11.

no there is no palm rejection setting i could find.

Oh God that problem.  Bane of many IT staff.  Software+drivers seems to have solved it since ~several years ago although I always supply a mouse with a laptop.

At the risk of dragging that fault out further, see if you can download the driver+software package for it to get the software that should have that setting as an option.  If it's of a reasonable brand laptop it'll have a driver download tool, eg HP Support Assistant for HP laptops and/or similar that use a browser plug-in to detect required updates.

Tried the Installation Assistant. After an hour of downloading and installing and watching percentages creep towards 100% at least twice, what do I get - Windows 11 installation failed.

Apparently I'm supposed to guess the reason.

Guess I should try again with the first suggested solution - remove external hard drives...

Here's an annoyance:  if you've got many windows open and you need to drag-drop something, under Windows 10 you can drag the item from the source, bring focus to the previously opened destination by holding it over the top of the icon in the task bar, then move the item into the now focused and forefront window.

That's gone from 11.  It won't be a problem so much for myself at the office at work where I have dual screens but with my work laptop at home it's going to be painful if we have another lockdown.  Hopefully they patch that back in like I believe they did with middle clicking task bar icons to launch a new instance.

Windows Update offered me an update to Win 11 this morning. Took about 45 minutes and no issues. (Bog standard Acer laptop about 18 months old)

Hmm, my first Windows 11 machine that I set up using the Insider Preview option came up with a message in Windows update (IIRC) the other day that the CPU wasn't suitable for W11 and that it may not get further updates or somesuch.

I now notice that message has gone and is still getting updates.  It's currently on "Windows 11 Insider Preview 22489.1000 (rs_prerelease)"

It has an i7-3770 CPU.  W11 installed on it months ago no problem with no warnings and I didn't have to do any trickery to make it install.

Windows update is offering me Win 11 already (I added a tpm2 module and sorted the UEFI) but...I just don't feel ready yet.  Is it decently stable yet?
