I installed Windows 10 on an older Windows 7 PC and it wouldn't connect. No errors, no indication at all that there was a problem. After much online searching and messing with different drivers (via USB...) I finally gave up and restored to W7 and it went without a hitch. You wouldn't know that W10 had been there, the old PC was exactly as it had been before the update, including an internet connection.
It turns out there are still a lot of people with NIC issues, and some with quite new rigs, so it's not all sorted yet.

Stop worrying about what other people think of you. They're really not thinking about you at all.

Thanks for that. I'm happy with Windows 7 and the computer is over 4 years old anyway so think I'll save the hassle and wait until I eventually replace it.

It's not a connection issue, our PC's are hardwired. It's a driver issue, especially (only?) Realtek chipsets.

It's not a connection issue, our PC's are hardwired. It's a driver issue, especially (only?) Realtek chipsets.

funnily I have the opposite issue - just rolled a new <manufacturers name deleted> pc back to the default Windows 7 Pro image and my realtek NIX, IMPI and PCI serials wont work .
<manufacturers name deleted> is now on it's 9th day trying to resolve the issue. cant win either way hey?

rhy7s: Does anyone else have a tray loading desktop optical drive that won't stay open under Windows 10? Mine just goes straight back in again. Doesn't behave like that in other OSes or in BIOS. System is a clean install (from the ISO mounted in a Zalman ZM-VE300) after an upgrade.

Another oddity led me to the fix for this on my system. Disk Management would load really slowly. One of the fixes mentioned was changing the SATA ports that the optical drive was connected to to IDE mode (leaving hard drives and SSDs on AHCI on the other controller). Now the tray doesn't retract automatically and Disk Management loads immediately.

Has anyone tried getting the Nested Virtualisation working in Win 10 build 10565 - I would be interested in seeing what kind of performance overhead is incurred. Unfortunately I don't have a VM Guest that is running the latest build to test it out.

I'm currently attempting to get 10 installed on an old laptop that was turned on for the first time in 2.5 years on Sunday. After a couple of days I've finally managed to get the Windows 10 icon at the bottom, and clicking on that brings up the "your upgrade is on the way" screen.

But... a day later it's still not downloading.

Is there really still a managed queue for downloading the OS? And if so I assume I've been put to the back of it?

I've also tried the standard approach to forcing a download (deleting files in the Windows update download folder etc) to no avail.

Is there anything else I could be doing to force it to download, or so I just need to wait my "turn"?

download the ISO as the above poster mentioned and run setup.exe from the ISO

This now seems to be fixed with Chrome 46.0.2490.71.
