Not a sneaky RTM but Windows 10 is looking very good. Roll on July 29

Here is a crazy notion, lets give peace a chance.

Is there a good place to look for the build releases?  I may have done some nasty things to my surface 3 in an attempt to get it to install build 10130 before discovering that there was a bug with the atom processor and 10130, so now I'm waiting hopefully for the next build to restore it to sanity.

Warning: reality may differ from above post

So I have a brand new SSD and a Windows 7 DVD/license key. What's the best way to upgrade to the W10 release once it's available? I'd rather not have to install W7 first if possible.

Unsure what windows insider is. I signed up to something to download W10 beta, is that it?

Having to install W7, SP1, and 200 patches before I can upgrade to W10 is pretty stupid. Will there be an ISO I can download and just enter my serial number during the install?

Won't Tim need to have Windows 7 installed anyway to get the update? Or is this going back to last week's "everyone Insider gets it for free" that caused so much confusion?

No, you need to initiate the upgrade from within an activated Windows 7, 8, or 8.1 OS.

That will acquire a license and activate it.

After that, if you want to do a clean install of 10 from media you can, since the store will remember the license.

You don't need the 200 patches either, just an activated OS.

That's a fairly poor experience for people who've been running Windows 10 preview for months. Install W7 then SP1, then probably have to download GB of W10 for each PC.

Microsoft doesn't seem to have thought this one through all that much.

Already an insider, signed up months ago to get W10.

You don't need to download for each PC. I did three here yesterday (10158) with only one download.

This is a good resource - the tutorials in the sticky threads are relevant to you, especially the ESD to ISO one.  http://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/

I help out at a local charity that has 6 laptops thanks to a kind donation. They are all running W7 Home Premium. The laptops are used by staff and clients, and I notice that some laptops have had the upgrade "reserved" on them. This charity certainly doesnt have an internet plan that would accommodate 6* W10 downloads.

What would be the best method of taking advantage of the free upgrade without all the downloading, and without taking up too much of my time? And do I need to "unreserve" W10 before July 29?

As a side point, one of the laptops has a faulty hard drive. I've been holding off fixing it, thinking I would just get a new SSD, and do a fresh install of W10 when the time came. Would this be possible?

You're talking about technical preview, I'm talking about release version.

I can't stay up to date, Windows Update won't install the new releases - I'm still on 9926. I don't want to have to reinstall a new beta now, then reinstall again for RTM.

I don't think Microsoft is stupid, clearly a lot of very bright people who work very hard.
